I'm so sorry about Sable.
I know that I would be very upset to lose my dogs. I know what you mean about the house being so quiet. One of my dogs got out and was missing for a day so I definately know what you mean.
It's nice of you to be strong for your wife but you also need to think of yourself. If you don't let it out, it may come out in a more negative way when you least expect it. I'm sure even though you are trying not to show it, your wife probably knows you well enough to know just how upset you are.
It takes a lot of love and courage to put a pet down so they will no longer suffer. You gave her a life that so many dogs never have the chance to live. She was lucky to have such wonderful owners.
