what most people mean when they say "stomach protector" is one of the proton pump inhibitors like prilosec, nexium, etc. if not that, then to take the meds on a full stomach (for me that means not at the beginning of my day, but after lunch or after dinner, when i feel my fullest, but i have stomach issues even without any meds making it worse, genetic) and a full glass of water. also things like ginger and mint (but not if reflux/GERD) help my gastritis immensely, that and i limit caffeine and limit acidic food and eat a number of small meals throughout the day to keep my stomach from gnawing on itself. all those things help my stomach be able to tolerate the meds a little bit better. but we're all different: some can tolerate the meds quite well, others hardly at all, its all so individual, all we can do is try and see what happens. and then some nsaids will really bother my stomach and others much less.
