I have a son who just turned 17 and we've been dealing with AS for about 5 years, with pain negatively impacting school for the past 2 years. Last year, he attended school part of the day and then a teacher came to the house, but even with that, he didn't get credit for his courses because of excessive absenteeeism. His rheumatologist and psychologist were both very much against trying online courses, but the school was also pretty uncooperative with meeting the disability accomodations that he needed. We tried again this year and he wasn't able to navigate the hallways (very crowded school) without people bumping into him causing severe back spasms, and he has a lot of pain with bending over to get in and out of the desk chairs with each class change. I just got him admitted to an online high school run by one of the state universities and we're both tremendously relieved.
I highly recommend exploring online courses and credit by exam. CBE classes will let her make up work and stay up with her peers. THey may not see their friends every day, but when they're in that much pain and discomfort, they're not exactly hanging out with their friends anyway and it does impact what they can and can't do.
