What kind of prosthesis are you getting? I highly recommend ceramic on ceramic. I'm at 15 years on that hip and going strong. No signs of wear at all. I got in the clinical trial back in 1998 and am so thankful I made the study.
I was walking on the hip the 2nd day. Up and down stairs. By the 5th day, I was out on the golf course. Not playing, but walking around on crutches and enjoying the course and my brother playing.
