Wendy I am on week 9, post op, and experiencing a little stiffness in my new hip these last few weeks.me being the eternal pessimist I feared the worst,a peri-prosthetic infection.....worse case scenario.
it is most likely however that I have been overdoing the post op fitness regime according to the lovely people at BONESMART.
I recommend that you sign up to the BONESMART forum ASAP, it is full of time served professional mods and chock full of SENSIBLE TAKE IT EASY advice
I guess what I am trying to say is be in no hurry to fast forward your recovery time from this THR....it will take it's own time and "speeding things up" as I have been doing, can actually set you back weeks at a time
everyone you will speak to who has had the op will say..."it's the best thing I have done, wish I had it done sooner" and that is a fair statement but this is coming from folks who have been in recovery for some considerable time. If you expect and are prepared for a rough couple of days you will do just fine...after that it gets a lot easier but still a daily challenge. Positive attitude is the key
Tuesday will be my 10th week and I feel I am quite close to walking some short distances without the cane. If other patients in the hospital make faster progress than you don't let it bother you, they probably don't have the other range of issues that you do and everyone will heal at their own pace.
one more thing.....my greatest source of frustration has been the "take it easy and do nothing but rest advice" that MUST be adhered to....
hope I have not put you on a downer...I figured the more you know about this the better prepared you will be to deal with it all when your time comes
check out BONESMART and speak with Josephine (mod)
best wishes
John
