There are lots of Dave's and David's etc, and unlike other discussion boards my handle is not obfuscated by the nature of this forum.
Unfortunately in Aussie they shorten just about everything to the first vowel and the next consonant and add an "O".
Hence Dave becomes Davo. It took me along time to except this as being a worthwhile exercise, but it works well when registering on non-australian sites and I can readily identify my posts on those bad days.

Nice question, it is something I wonder about many times too when I read the posts here. Mine is from an old plan I made with friends to make a website where everyone could leave best wishes for someone else or even light a virtual candle. The site is called wensfontein.nl which can be translated to wishing_well.com, a place or fountain where you throw a coin in and do a wish (it should be possible too to make an optional contribution to the makers, as such it was also a bit of a joke about the internet where in those days people got rich by selling nothing) The url for the site still exist but it is linked to another site http://www.nergenshuizen.nl, a strange site of a friend of mine about making pudding, about Sauternes wine and other things. Anyway I still have an email adress at wensfontein.nl which is wishing_well@wensfontein.nl but of course I do in the first place also wish everybody well. Wow! I post this and the next time I come back it has 5 pages. You guys ROCK! Keep it up. Jo, my computer has been down so I am using a different one, therefore my scanner can't be used. It sounds like you really had a good time on the Canadian get-together! I am sooo jealous...  I wish I could have been there and seen everyone.
