If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I just posted my first post over in the general section.
I do not have AS, but I do have Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disorder- w/ severe pain in all joints incl. spine and SI joints.
I am on Enbrel, methotrexate, imuran, indomethacin, Avinza, and others.
10 years since all this started.
I am wondering if I would be a candidate for this diet?
I have been almost totally gluten-free for over a year now and while it helps my digestion, I can't detect any improvement in pain.
But, at this point, I am getting desperate so may be willing to do something drastic like this diet.
any info appreciated!

I'm far from an expert on this diet, but my own experience has been it also helps my digestion. When I don't eat properly, my pain levels also increase. I don't follow it quite as strict as many on here (it's a work in progress for me), but I'm getting better at it & realizing that there are many things that unfortunately I just can't tolerate right now.
I also am on Enbrel, which I notice definitely affects my appetite & the types of foods I crave. It almost seems counterproductive in some ways to stay on the medication with the diet, but the Enbrel may in fact offer me the chance to avoid alot more serious damage & utilizing the diet will help me be healthier as well as minimize my symptoms. So I'm trying to reasonably combine the best of both worlds.
Many will come along here with much more useful advice & feel free to ask lots of questions - everyone is very informative on here.
Welcome & good luck to you.
Janet

Hi Your symptoms sounds like AS to me. I really recommend you try NSD and see what it happens. You have been on GF diet so i think nsd won't be difficult to you.
Good luck

Hi and welcome to kickas - I think everyone would be a good candidate for this diet. http://www.mercola.com/article/carbohydrates/paleolithic_diet.htmIt's a matter of changing habits that seem difficult at first, but get easier over time.

Hi and welcome,
Not a doctor, so the terms you throw at me do not help me much in understanding exactly what it is you have (Sorry).
A diet book that is good for all arthritis sufferers is "Alternative Medicine Guide to Arthritis" by Zamperion. It can be found at Barnes and Noble if you want to purchase (at least when I lived in the states). This has a lot of good advice regarding diets... even mentions the London AS Diet (No Starch Diet).
As others have pointed out, this diet could help with digestive issues potentially, not sure if would help your specific condition. The book I mentioned as many good dietery guidlines that I would like to incorporate more if I could tolerate more starch.
Best to you,
Tim
AS may win some battles, but I will win the war.

thanks for the replies.
I do not generally mind the gluten-free diet, but I really struggle with keeping weight on, plus I get lots of nausea from migraines, so this diet may be a challenge. I ordered one of the recommended books and will look into it further, though, as I always have an open mind.

hi Gardeniagirl, My initial diagnosis about 20 years ago was mixed connective tissue disease, which sounds like it may be the same as your undifferentiated connective tissue disease. It wasn't until years later that the uveitis hit and I WAS FINALLY tested for HLA-B27 that I put two and two together and came up with ankylosing spondylitis. The diet has been a cure for me. I would certainly give it a try if I were you!! LindaG
