Arjan made an excellent post regarding "Enzyme Potentiated Desensitisation" which may be why my asthma has dissapeared ever since taking the enzyme supplements.

here is the document Arjan brought to my attention:

Hi dancin-dani,

I am replying to your trial with Bromelian. I hoped the label on the bottlle of bromelian you have/had said that if you take it with meals it helps with your digestion.
Without food in the stomach it will help with temporary relief of mild inflammation of the joints and connective tissue. ( This info is from the brand "Natural Nutrition" regarding 50 tablets each containing 300 mg of bromelian). Quote from label: " May be useful for the temporary relief of sports related injuries. In addition, it is often taken prior to athletic events. Also assists digestion of protien, and may be of assistance in relief from flatulence."
Still quoting....
"Recommended Adult dosage: take one tablet three times daily with meals(as digestive aid). Or one to three tablets between meals, or prior to sport. Or as advised by your Health Care Professional.

NO added cane sugar, starch, gulten, yeast, salt, artifical colouring, artificial flavouring, preservatves or animal products."
end quotation...

The points to note here are: 1) that you are better of taking a higher dosage than 300mg (which you did)
2) stay on the between meals and on empty stomach "medication" .
Hope it will help you to be more active after taking continuous dosages over "as long as it does you no harm". Just a joke.
Here's wishing that you will be able to be an active person.

Ps: I hoped that if you are already back on bromelian and are doing well with it that you continue the ,maybe expensive, alternative remedy. There may be a need to stay on citrus fruits, bromelian and rutin.

I would like to suggust the following:

if you dare to take more than three tablets a day. And can space out the hours that you take the tablets :
you may want to take one tablet of bromelain while eating meat (e.g. fish) that is high in protein and is hard to digest
It helped me to digest oily fish.

Good luck and keep smiling!

Hi gd7405,

In Australia and in Sydney health food store and chemists/ pharmacies sell them on the shelves and then you pay at the register or over the counter.
I go for the brand "Natural Nutrition". Label states "high potency, pineapple enzymes" and "dietary supplement".

Product contains bromelian 300mg and calcium phosphate 100mg.
I hope that you have already found some.

He is also taking turmeric, boswellin, flax/borage oil, quercetin , bifidus and a b-complex, along with naproxen. He has improved greatly in the last month.

Thanx nicole,
Actually I just took some quercetin last night and I think it really does work.
But taking it at night is no good. I don't think I will ever take quercetin at night again, as it makes me dehydrated. Does not seem to be a problem when taken in the morning though.

According to this website quercetin should be taken with bromelain. Apparently this combination is effective against allergies...and perhaps other inflammation??
So I tried it.. and I am feeling great.. today at least. Currently I am on: rutin, quercetin, bromelain and noni juice.

Indeed, quercetin and bromalain should be taken together. One helps the other absorb better.

Also be sure to take it on an empty stomach, since Bromelain will be expended as a digestive enzyme if you take it with food.

[####]!
There goes my theory about trying to find a variety of apple with some bromelain as well as quercetin!
Unless the "jenneting" apples are such...
Maybe pine apple with apple...

Tim, here's a curly one for you!
Does this mean pineapple has Zero available bromelain if we eat it?
Noni fruit too?

Most of the bromelain in the pineapple is found in the stem. There is some in the fruit, but not as much.

I've relieved a flare by eating a meal of pineapple. That works. It's just that when you eat it with other foods, like let's say steak or something that takes some digesting, well then the bromelain will likely be used up in the digestion.

On the flip side, that isn't necessarily bad. Some of us may well have problems with our food getting properly digested, so either way bromelain can be helpful.
