If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi there- funny thing happened on the way to lunch..... I sat to eat with my collegues today and one said "did you know your eye is bleeding?" Ok, so I ran to the bathroom - no mirror. Had to have them use the digital camera to take a pix so I could see! A big red spot in the white part! The lateral side of the right eye next to the iris. Has this happened to anyone?? I feel just a bit of pressure - like a dull headach behind the eyes , but no pain nor has the vision changed. The Dr GP called right away said if it doesn't hurt and if I could see, then it could wait till tomorrow. In the mean time the eye dr who followed my uvitis (same eye) a few years ago has moved to another location and I still have to transfer the files!!!! Just 10 min before they said my eye was red, it was normal. Does anyone out there know about this? Does iritis come on suddenly unannounced? Would it be that even though I just had my 6th humida this Monday and am on cymbalta? I look forward to any info!!!! ThNk you.... Lucy

Is it painful? I have woke up in the a.m.'s with Iritis or woke up in the night the same way. It can hit suddenly. It also can be a broken blood vessel. Iritis will be very painful and very very light sensitive.
I hope you can get in to get it seen about tomorrow.

If it doesn't hurt very much and the redness is in the white part of the eye then it sounds like episcleritis which I get frequently. It comes on very suddenly, the pain is mild - a kind of mild aching sensation, the redness is startling - like a deep red blob sometimes covering as much as half of the sclera, either the inner half or the outer half. It does look as though it suddenly started bleeding. It also happens quite suddenly without warning. It certainly sounds very similar. If it's episcleritis, it's not too serious but you have to keep an eye on it.

Hi Lrtabit,
This is what happened to me and it ended up being a sudden Iritis flair. At first I saw my family doctor and he thought it was allergies so he sent me home with allergy medication. A few days later I was having some serious pains in my eye, and it was almost completely covered in red, so then I had to see an eye specialist right away. I was dxed the same day of seeing the eye specialist and was put on cyclogyl (dilater) drops and prednisolone (pred forte) drops, and took about 3 months to completely go away. The worst of it was gone in the first few days though... it was just that it wanted to keep lingering on for some reason. Be sure to see an eye specialist, especially if you suspect the iritis/uveitis.
Take care, and watch that eye. James.

Yes, iritis can come on suddenly and unannounced, and in my experience isn't always painful. If you can get to an opthamologist do so pronto!

Hi Lucy, so sorry to hear about your eye! I see from your location you are in SE Mass? That's so cool, I'm from the north shore! If you have iritis/uveitis you are in luck because in Cambridge there is Dr Foster at the Mass Eye Research and Surgery Institute, which is THE place if you have any kind of occular inflammatory condition. www.uveitis.org People fly in from all over the country. It really scares me how much misdiagnosis there is out there when it comes to uveitis, and there are so few experts in that field, so seeing a specialist, not just an eye doctor, is really important, I've learned the hard way. Best wishes and please let me know how you are! Jan

Hi everyone, What a day - the long and the short of it is that the eye is ok - its a broken blood vessel. Both GP and eye surgeaon looked at it - rest and go easy for a few days and it should resolve in a week or so. I see the rheumy next week anyway. He called me back this am to say that he hopes it was not iritis as we were having better results on the humira and did not want to switch to simpioni. So my daughter keeps asking if mommy is going to be ok and is her eye going to get better.. she has been freaked out about it. Me too but when your day goes so fast, the only time to stop and reflect is at night when I crash - like right now. I'm going to have a good cry - in about a week. I so so so so so much appreciate everyone's reply. Jan, I like knowing about the Dr in Cambridge as I already travel to Burlingotn to visit Lahey. I have had a good eye surgeon who has followed my uvitis since 2001 and who also had, at the time, referred me to a great opthalmologhist in Providence who, was the only one to order a whole battery of blood work that began to tell the story we know today. so between those two, I've had an eye person was checking on me every 6mos. Jan - if you ever take a road trip to Horseneck or theNew Bedford area, let me know, we'll meet for coffe or something! We were thinking of taking my 9 yr old to Salem this year.... we'll see. Take care and I thank God I have you all - James, Possi, Wendy, Jewelz and Jan and all the rest who are out there ! A grateful Lucy
