For me, Simponi has only been lasting for around 14 days before the pain increases without the requirement for any adtivity, and sleep becomes very difficult due to back pain.

After reading a number of posts on here about others having Simponi injects bi monthly, I thought I was doing the right thing by waiting until around the third week after the injection, before having another.

My Rheumy was not impressed, and told me to continue injecting every 4 weeks until I get my new script to go back onto Enbrel.

I was quite surprised that he didn't seem to understand the amount of pain I was in that lead me to inject early, and I was also surprised that he didn't suggest I inject fortnightly.

It seems that for him, it was not an option.

How many others are injecting fortnightly?

James

It is so hard to find a Rheumy who understands pain. Why is that? They deal with people in pain all the time. Where is the empathy/sympathy/human feeling?

Sorry you're suffering.

Take Care,
Donette

I would call him back and ask for some stronger pain meds to get you through until the Enbrel kicks in. Just say you cant bear the pain. If he wont write a script, say you will have to go to the ER. Doctor's just hate it when we go into the ER for pain meds, it makes them look like they aren't doing a good job.

Hi James,

I'm sorry that it isn't lasting long enough for you and carrying you farther.

I suppose that the protocol regarding dose and frequency may differ between countries and also wonder if it might be the health system tying your doctors hands in determining what is allowed. Sometimes I don't think they do truly appreciate how bad the pain can really be.

I really hope that you find more relief once you are back on Enbrel again.

Thanks Donette, Donna and Mig,

I did up my norspan to 40mcg which has helped a bit - but I was trying to avoid that as the side effects get a lot worse.

I guess I should have contacted him first before injecting early, but I just didn't think of it - injecting was the easy way to reduce the pain.

All the best,

James
