We called them thongs when I was a kid, but now thongs are a type of underwear, so to avoid confusion we call the footwear flip flops.

I can't stand flip flops with the thing between the toes. But I think I may look for some other shower sandals. I hate having a wonderful relaxing shower only to have it end in pain.

micki, i hate things between my toes as well, that's one reason i can only wear these in the shower, plus shopped around til i found a pair with a relatively thin piece that goes between the toes, that helps.

james, i don't think the flip flops would be good for my body to wear long term, so just for standing (in the shower). kinda like standing on a rubber mat, but more convenient.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for clarifying! I thought they may hurt you long term.

Yes, I agree - they are great for the shower.

Especially communal showers - in the Army I mean. You just never wanted to put your bare feet on that slippery, germ infested ground - shudder.

Ordered a pair of the soft footbed birkenstock milanos today. $120 from amazon. Im looking forward to seeing how they compare to the traditional footbed.

This summer we holidayed in a cottage with wood and tile floors throughout (carpet at home except bathroom and kitchen). I found it badly aggravated my plantar fasciitis and ended up wearing crocs round the house, was such a relief to get home!

I don't know about showering in flip flops; however, I spend most of my waking hours in Rainbow flip flops and find them the most comfortable and hardwearing of all the types I have tried. I believe they are made in the US but are available in the UK (I think in Cornwall).I get very little pain when wearing them and only suffer when wearing shoes/trainers. Hope this helps.

thanks, :holly2:

went to check them out on line.
if they are perfectly flat with no arch support, they'd be good, as they look really spongy. there is one style that looks pretty flat, and looks like they are sold in stores around here so i could try them out first.
