Hi there,
I'm on LSD from last three weeks. The diet no doubt is a blessing and has helped me to reduce steroids (5mg every 2-3 days). My only worry is I lost three kilos in three weeks. I’m now on the lower scale of optimum weight for my height. I think I can’t afford to lose weight anymore. But will not eat pain causing starchy food again. I have read in the forum that it is normal to lose weight in the starting of LSD. How long does it takes for weight to stabilise?
I have eliminated all grains. I’m using Sinclair’s recipes. I eat loads of vegies, fruits (specially one apple a day to keep the doctor at bay) and meat. I’m into yoga, morning stretches and static cycling. I wonder is there something that I missed in the diet and losing weight so quickly or is it normal?

if you are concerned about losing weight, you could focus on getting more fat in your diet.

if you can eat the following, highly calorie dense, and mostly healthy fat:

coconut, coconut oil, nuts, nut powders/flours, olive oil.

i use almond or hazelnut flours quite often (in place of flour or mixed with berries, etc.) amarettis, made with almond flour make an excellent cookie. i make a fruit crisp using nut flours instead of regular flour, think it tastes even better than the original recipe.

i make a salad dressing that is equal parts EVOO, balsamic, honey.

and then there is always chocolate. i love a good dark chocolate. doesn't take much for the calories and lbs to add up. and for me, i have the opposite problem with my weight, and the only time i can really lose is when i cut out all chocolate.

I eat 2-3 salads a day (with chicken or fish). Each salad is 'drenched' in 100ml EVOO, plus 25ml of balsamic vinegar and a teaspoon of honey.

My weight has been steady for 1.5 years... wink

If I was able to truly 'exercise' I'd increase my food + EVOO/Coconut oil intake.

If you're able to eat nuts, they put on the weight.

Never ever forget dessert!
Meringue, marzipan, halvah, souffle, ice cream. Yes, nuts would be great especially if trying to avoid the sugar, but eat what sugar You do eat right at the end of every meal (this is the "reverse Atkins" approach and it really works!).

I stabilized my weight after a year on strict NSD then it took a meteoric rise when I had operations and developed metabolic syndrome. Now even since I cannot consume sugar I cannot shake the weight despite exercising.

I think it's normal. In my case, my weight plummeted initially. Mainly caused by trying to figure out the little that I could eat.

I went from 155 to about 127 pounds initially. It was pretty scary. In the three years since my weight bottomed out, I'm back to a more respectable 145ish. (My goal is to get to 150...)

Figure out what you can and can't eat - once you do that, I think your weight will stabilize. I was so afraid of inducing pain that I was pretty draconian in introducing new things into my diet. That probably led to an even more drastic weight loss. I suspect that my inactivity also contributed to muscular atrophy as well. However, over time, I gradually reintroduced more foods, and continued to tweak my diet. It was a very gradual increase back - figuring out what I could eat, and strengthening myself to add a little muscle back.

Best of luck with figuring out a regimen that makes the most sense for your specific situation!

After taking a food intolerance test, I've got limits. Can anyone here suggest a muscle mass / fat increase food(s) from the following food limitations?

Here's what I cannot have:
Cow’s Milk
Casein (Alpha & Beta) – Basically any dairy product.
Oats
Yeast
Coffee
Sesame
Buckwheat
Sorghum
Millet
Hemp
Aramanth
Quinoa
Tapioca
Teff
Eggs
Corn

I currently use these to increase fats / weight:
coconut
coconut oil
chocolate bar (80% cocoa or higher)
nuts
olive oil (lots of it on my salads)
avocado
chicken, fish, some red meat

Again, looking for foods and/or recipes that will bulk me up. Thanks!

I find medjool dates mixed with nuts and/or cacao (pure raw chocolate powder) really "fill" me up and contain a lot of calories. Dates are also a good source of potassium and other trace minerals & vitamins, so they always make me fell good when I eat them.

Here are two calorie rich NSD recipes with dates that I LOVE:

I also add medjool dates to my mango smoothies on days when I feel like drinking a meal instead of eating one. I believe its the sugars that make us gain more weight than the fats. And dates are a very easily digestible fruit sugar, they do not give me any candida related symptoms like real sugar or too much honey can do!

Need more nuts with sugars like marzipan and a halvah that is not made from sesame seeds, but especially macadamias and Brazils are good, also to provide the fats that are more easily stored. My old standby was almonds with both raisins and dark chocolate morsels (very filling, so may be another problem).

There are some "bulk-up" free-form amino acids, but not certain they are available where You are located without improper additives: Taurine and creatine.

But don't ever forget to eat dessert and some desserts can be made from tofu--they are sweet ice cream-like concoctions. Good to have plenty of gelatin and Jello products, also.

It is difficult with so many common foods off-limits, but the thing will be timing first and then absolute volume of food to achieve the required calories.

I was finally able to make the donut holes and they are quite good. I posted my version on my blog. I also have dried organic figs I bought from Costco. Do you think I could substitute 1 or 2 dates with a dried fig?

John, thanks for the suggestions - I've never tried marzipan and a halvah. I do, however, have a stock of Brazil nuts & macadamias that I eat almost every day.

Can you give me an example of an ice cream that uses tofu? And what kind of Jell-O / gelatin is good to use? I ask because I'm sure some of them have some sort of starchy filler and/or improper ingredients for healthier eating.
