My (71-yr-old, vicious, lying, drunk) mother (who has osteo in ONE FINGER and her left knee because she blew them apart with injuries over the years) is standing in the living room whining her lying BUTT off to the drunk, 60-yr-old neighbor (who has osteo in his right hand from decades of drunken fistfights) about her horrible arthritis. She's holding her hands out to him, 60% open, saying "look, I can't bend them any farther than that," and he's whining back to her about HIS, and here I am using a WALKER because there's another snowstorm blowing in, and the two of them are just making me effing SICK TO MY STOMACH. My mother SPINS YARN BY HAND. Do any of you know how hard that is on arthritic hands? She has one jacked up finger - ONE FINGER. She spins wool about 3-6 hours per day.
I am just disgusted right now. I wish I could just punch her in her lying face. Then I'd have a REASON for my hand to hurt this badly.

From what she has told us in the past, I don't think so.

I've seen people who crave attention and will magnify anything to get it (drama queens and kings). Being old and drunk just makes it worse. And these people do not want to share that attention with anyone else, even one of their own children.

AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

I really, really wish I were joking . . . I AM SO SICK OF DRUNK PEOPLE! These two . . . my mom, and the neighbor (who lost his driver's license and therefore is ALWAYS knocking on our door to bum a ride to the liquor store, or bum this, or bum that, or pick a fight, or accuse my husband of beating me because my mother tells lies) . . . they are driving me crazy. I need serenity. I need Al-anon so badly right now. My husband is the best alcoholic on earth, I swear. with him, it actually IS like a physical illness - he fights it. He works hard at fighting it. And he's a good, kind person. But I'm surrounded. And my mother is a cruel person. Rather insane, too. (not joking).
The neighbor just got a Rx for metacam - will that kill his liver faster? I'm certain he's lying to the doctor about his drinking.
Thanks for listening, guys.
hugs,
Bridget

Oh, I wish for you: space, and healthy distance between you and dysfunctional addicted people!
Easy access to meetings!
For the storm to blow off course!
Pain free days!
All this and more I wish for you!
I'm the same as you, if someone is working their program, doing their best, I'm so supportive...but if someone is locked into addiction and lying, I feel this nearly allergic reaction, must get away!
xo

Wish I had a nice easy way of zapping them out of your life so you could just get on with yours, but I don't, so I can only wish you as much strength as possible to deal with them.
