I swim one hour (non-stop) every day at the local pool. I don't count laps, because I'm in the dive tank and I alternate between strokes and treading. I also cycle to and from the pool now that spring has come. Not far, maybe a kilometre. On weekends I cycle a lot more.
I have this new rule whereby I either walk or cycle to the grocery store and only bring back (and eat) what I can carry.
Wow Edwin one hour swimming every day is impressive.I'm not sure I could swim for that long, mentally or physically.
I've been swimming two days per week, but am planning to increase it to three days per week. I've been very conservative about increasing the swimming for fear of aggravating my joints too much - as it is I sometimes have sore ankles or wrists or ribs the next day.
I currently work at home on Wednesdays, so have a mid-week swim and then another swim in the weekend. If I want to add another day it would be at the end of a full day at work plus bus ride to the pool near home - it will be interesting to see how I cope with that, but plan to try on Friday.
AS, IBS, reflux oesophagitis and dysphagia, PCOS/insulin resistance, asthma... Currently managing my AS with humira, methotrexate, low starch diet and exercises. Also taking omeprazole, metformin etc.
Went to my orthopedic surgeon today, and he took the brace away. Now I start physical therapy. He said I could exersize on a stationary bike, or an elliptical. Glad to get rid of the brace, but the shoulder does not move very well, and my security brace is gone.
walked 1.5 miles, 30 minutes yesterday with a friend.
the weather was once again beautiful

I tore my calf muscle last SAturday chasing after my little son. Not good.... I am on crutches and a little bit fed up. Any ideas about when this is going to sort itself out? Any tricks to help it along?
Wow do you ever have a good attitude!
How long does the MD say it will take to heal?

I mainly do breaststroke because my specialist nurse told me it would help open up my chest wall. I do a lap or two of freestyle/crawl but I have trouble with the breathing because of the reduced lung volume (chest wall expands 1cm cf the normal 5cm for my age). I only know how to do freestyle with a breath on the fourth stroke and have trouble getting enough air in for that long now.
Welcome here Shirley! It's especially fun for me to have another swimmer!

I'm so glad you're back on your feet again and having fun! How soon does the MD say it will be before you'll be able to run again?

I have done several 2 mile walks up our hill and walks to school to pick up. No where near enough exercise I have been too busy. AND I finally got myself back in the swimming pool I haven't been for a good while. It was hard going I hadn't realised how much I have stiffened up. It was very uncomfortable my left SI started to hurt immediately when it had been fine?? Luckily it eased of and was fine afterwards.
@ Shirley, No not counting distance doesn't rule you out any exercise is good. I am glad to hear you swim breast stroke, so do I even though when you read about swimming for AS everything says crawl or swimming on your back! I feel vulnerable/exposed swimming on my back (daft I know) and front crawl I can't do the breathing thing so lots of twisting involved and looking stupid. I also figure swimming breast stroke stops my back from 'bannana-ing' by making it bend backwards lol.
I LOVE the word "bannana-ing"!!!

Welcome here Dave! I personally think life is too short/long to go without just one more driver.
For me, I swam 1/2 mile today, cleaned house for an hour yesterday, and two times over the weekend I swam 1,000 yds.
Life is pretty good these days. Can't complain much when there's a little grandbaby to play with!

I have to say I am 1 lucky bunny, I have had alot of problems in the last 12 months with various things but my AS has remained dormant. Fingers crossed that doesn´t change!
I stopped tearing things when i went on LDN.
hope it heals fast.
ultrasound helped things heal faster for me.

What´s LDN in English? I´ve been going to the physio this week and things are starting to look better. I might get rid of the crutches next week all going well. I was in the pool today at the physio. The exercise I did was to practise walking correctly - does this count as movement? Having said that going around on crutches tires me out no end.
I had to go through a naturpath first to get it, but my current rheumy prescribes it.
anything that works this well at the one thing it does with no side effects is a keeper.

Saturday, went up to the lake to take a walk along the nice trail up there near the marina. Walked ~1 hour. Some photo taking, some sitting and enjoying the feel of the sunshine and the sound of the waves. Walked maybe 2 miles.
Today, went out again after work to enjoy the sunshine. Walked around the yard taking photos for awhile. Then a short walk around the cul de sac. 1 mile, 20 minutes.
