If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi there: I'm new so you'll have to forgive me if I'm not posting in the correct place. You seem to be the man in the know and I have some questions I hope you can help with. I am an RD so I"m not totally lost with biochemistry but I am having some trouble figuring out what I must cut out initially or what might expedite the process of healing. I know you can't give medical advice but what ever you suggest I'll take to my physician. 1)Can I take something like an anti-fungal for a few days to consecutively to get rid of this chronic yeast (off starch but not completely sugar or fruit or squash or carrots) I'm kind of worried I'll go into ketosis...think I did a little on my first day (work up with horrible breath)I'm willing to do the apple cleanse if it will help but again it's yeast AND the damn bacteria I seem to be fighting. 2) Can I drink Kefir 3) I take other medication for another illness...would the starch in these pills keep me sick or should I be begging doc for a liquid form? 4) Does cellulose in capsuled supplements make a difference? 5) Is there a supplement line that Caters to AS patients? Any help you could offer I would really appreciate Kind Regards, Kelly

Hello there Kelly, Glad you found us... I know some, but there are some here that know more. Hopefully they can come along and help as well. I will take a stab at some questions.
Should be able to... I have battled candida at times and used garlic and avoided sugar. I do not know if the anti fungal has starch... but if you need to get rid of the yeast infection that may take priority short term. I look at NSD as life commitment for now. There are some here that drink Kefir... I eat yogurt and sauerkraut for my probiotics. At times if my GI was not well... taking probiotics caused additional problems. When GI was settled it has not typically been an issue for me and probiotics help to heal. 3) I take other medication for another illness...would the starch in these pills keep me sick or should I be begging doc for a liquid form?
It the pills have starch, you may feel it. I took some supplements once.. only the capsule had starch and after 4-5 days my right hip flared on me. I trialed the supplement on 3 separate occasions and each time had same response. 4) Does cellulose in capsuled supplements make a difference?
Personally I think they are fine... but I am not 100% sure. 5) Is there a supplement line that Caters to AS patients?
I have never come across one. But I think probiotics if GI is fine is something that all AS patients should look into IMO. Best to you, Tim
AS may win some battles, but I will win the war.

WELCOME, Kelly: 1)Can I take something like an anti-fungal for a few days to consecutively to get rid of this chronic yeast (off starch but not completely sugar or fruit or squash or carrots) I'm kind of worried I'll go into ketosis...think I did a little on my first day (work up with horrible breath)I'm willing to do the apple cleanse if it will help but again it's yeast AND the damn bacteria I seem to be fighting.
Anti-fungals are compatible with AS, generally, and I recommend colloidal silver that is made properly and as Tim mentioned garlic has some good anti-fungal properties. Yes, benign dietary ketosis certainly coats the tongue--but worse if candidiasis is an issue, so good to treat this. 2) Can I drink Kefir
3) I take other medication for another illness...would the starch in these pills keep me sick or should I be begging doc for a liquid form? Kefir: PROBABLY--avoid commercial preparations that have starchy substrates added sometimes, I think. Compounding pharmacies can sometimes work out the starch issue, but better to test everything, initially--at least until You achieve remission through diet and natural methods. 4) Does cellulose in capsuled supplements make a difference? No, although cellulose is a residue, it is inert as far as AS goes, generally. 5) Is there a supplement line that Caters to AS patients? Maybe "Tanalbit," but generally no. NOW makes great products and I have used their enteric-coated oregano oil mixture. "Miracle Noodle" makes stuff out of mushroom flour--but it has to be in a very piquant and tasty sauce because even as a flavor-delivery system, it is not very desirable, but bake a lasagna with it and not too bad. But I don't know of any "AS-line" but wish there were one--great marketing idea awaits NutraSystem or someone able to work out the "AS-Diet." Very glad You have joined the discussion, John

I did an extensive write-up and diary about the benefits and side effects with using water kefir. Overall I recommend it as the side effects are quite low and the benefits of good bacteria are very high - I even have a gut ecology test to prove it. On the debate of water vs. milk kefir, I suggest going with water as you don't have to deal with the casein issues from the milk.

Thank you gentlemen. I really appreciate your input. I haven't yet purchased the NSD book but will this week. I'm pretty hungry and for the first time in my life realizing I have to cook everything from scratch. I'm currently taking table spoons of Nystatin twice daily. I'm not ever sure this is a good thing or a bad thing. I'll have the discussion with my doctor.
I am so glad you are here to answer my crazy questions. I so much want to be on the healing path. Right now it's just painful and scary...with a little door of hope this site has provided.
I thank you!
Kelly

Hi Kelly, Sorry to hear about your pain. I flare when I take probiotics. In addition I read magnesium lowers cortisol in the body. Cortisol helps fight inflammation and I feel worse when I take magnesium supplements, I just thought I would tell you my experience. One thing that helped me in addition to the NSD was juicing fruits and vegetables and drinking fresh juice two times a day. I think the fresh carrot apple kale juice is packed with vitamins that heal the joints/gut, because it is easy to digest and the body does not have to work hard at digesting it. The body gets a lot of nutrients in a small glass of juice. When I avoid starches, dairy, sugar I feel much better, and my labs are all normal except one and it is coming down each time I go to the dr.
Hope you do well and feel better, take care!!
Diet change has improved my RA. I feel best eating raw veggies and some fruits and avoiding grains, sugars, nightshades, beans and dairy. Sed rate dropped from 65 to 19, but it took over a year. www.fatsickandnearlydead.com excess fat/oils = pain for me recipes for raw food on Youtube "raw food romance" and "healing josephine" Josephine is in remission from RA after two years by change diet/exercise

I use hemp, flax, chia seeds all the time in all sorts of recipes. I enjoy all 3 without any issues.
But I have seen a few on here report they had problems with chia seeds and flax seeds.
I have found it is impossible to be constipated when eating a diet loaded with fresh fruits and veggies. The raw food diet gets things moving and keeps 'em moving like clockwork for me. When you think of how much moisture a piece of bread pulls out from your body in order to be digested, compared to how much moisture a fresh pear or piece of melon puts back in.... Also many find chia pudding to be a great way to sponge out the colon too, as chia is loaded with soluble and insoluble fiber. I think of it as a giant cleansing sponge.
Just soak 1/4 cup chia seeds in almond milk, juice or water, stir, and after 15 minutes you have a tapioca like pudding. I like to use almond milk, a little maple syrup, and blueberries in my chia pudding.

I'm now a KICK AS (and Kick IBD) success story!! After going low starch Paleo to heal my gut, I can now eat nearly all starches, grains & foods without inflammation, flare-ups, or pain. I used a modified SCD diet approach (minus dairy! plus cacao ♥). Cheers to healing & thriving again! I blog at http://www.forestandfauna.com/about/
