I am looking into what kind of massage therapy may help to ease my back and SI joint pain, and am wondering what other people's experiences with massage therapy has been.

In terms of direct relief from the AS, not really.. but what it will do is help make you less stiff so you can continue to move.

I take my daughter once a month...wish I could more often, but with all her other treatments I feel like we already spend enough time in waiting rooms.

She's had relaxation massages and some that are more geared toward a sport medicine approach with a lot of pressure points and stretching involved - she likes them both. She said it's not so much about pain relief, but more of a tension relief when she finds herself getting tight.

I've also seen that other people say massage makes them incredibly sore - so it may not work for everyone?

Massages help me a lot. I had tingling in my arms for about 6 months and only massage made it stop. I get regular light Swedish massages and I love them. I tell them not to do any stretches on me, and not to rotate or pull any joints. I ask for extremely light pressure, and I still feel that I get benefits.

Everything is okay. Trust yourself, and do not live from a place of fear.
