Many of the members are using TENS device for pain management. I would like to know their experience of using TENS. I also request your experience with devices for home use with their make and model details.
Thanks in advance.

for me, TENS is just a tingly feeling in addition with the feeling of my pain.

it doesn't seem to mask my pain at all.

but others have different experiences.

on the other hand if you can get an IF stim machine, that helped me. its like tens but instead of two electrodes, it has four. you place them such that the signals interfere with one another and this drives the signal down into the muscles where the pain is.

tens is very superficial in comparison.

insurance said it was "experimental" back in 2009 when I had borrowed one to consider buying through insurance so they wouldn't allow it. but that was then.

I know ultrasound used to be considered experimental / no proof that it works; but now its an accepted form of therapy.

I use TENS.

It works reasonably well, not however at getting rid of pain. My understanding was/is, that the pads (4 in my case) simply confuse the messages twixt muscle and brain thus, the brain doesn't realise it needs to send a pain signal! Hope I have that right. Anyway, it is good for me so far.

All the best

Like ineptwill says, sort of scrambles the pain signals. I use it mostly when sciatica flares up. Put the pads in place (two sets) and crank it up. In a couple of hours, I can get some relief. Leave it on constantly, but change the wave pattern/intensity from time to time. Take it off for shower, but run it on low overnight to keep the effect going. Have used it for SI pain on occasion, but it's not as effective for that. Tried it on my feet early on but pads wouldn't stay put for work....yes, I wore it at work to see if I could make a difference in pain levels. TENS is a tool, one of many choices to have.

Thank you. I am thinking of discussing with some physiotherapist to know about its efficacy for AS. Then further about on reliable product etc.,
