Just got back from the doctor about the pain in my Achilles heel. He said with someone with AS it usually takes years to stop hurting. Up until now, AS has only slowed me down a little. I have fusion in my back and can't reach the ground most days. But other than having a service dog, you would never know anything was wrong with me. Most people actually assume I am training her for someone else. I just want to stay active as long as possible. Sorry, just needed a shoulder to cry on for a moment.

Hi,

The first question that came to mind was: did he have anything helpful to say about dealing with the pain, or physio, or anything like that?

I'm sorry you're having this trouble, especially given your jobs.

warm hugs,W

Kat,

He said something about nitroglycerine patches. Has anyone had any luck getting Entheses to stop hurting?

Wow,

I've never heard of nitro patches for pain. Weird.

I have a few ideas:

Sometimes a 6 day methylpred dose pak will knock out an enthesitis that has been hanging on for months and months.

I was getting achilles heel pain something terrible at one point. I started wearing rubber flip flops in the shower all the time and my heel pain is much better.

I had a modest bout with it since september but needed methylpred for a meeting I went to a few weeks back and now its gone.

Also, the stuff my podiatrist taught me to deal with Plantar fasciitis does help my heel pain too....then again for me it could be enthesitis of where the PF attaches to the heel so maybe that's why it works.

Also contrast baths of hot and cold have helped all my foot inflammation.

And sometimes a few days of Aleve will help a lot.

Just some thoughts.

My foot and heel pain has come on and off as long as I can remember. I disagree with the M.D.. I must say though that it's been MUCH less frequent and severe since I started water exercises. I try not to kick too hard or go too fast. It takes me 1.5-2 minutes to swim 50 meters, but I don't get hurt that way. Hug hug

Hello there,

Finally have some time to check in. Hope you are doing better today.

I had some x-rays done 3 months ago for pre-employment process. The showed a bit more fusion, so a bit of a bummer. But I already knew that was the case with my daily stretching.

Keep your head up.

Tim

Thanks for all the input. Yesterday I started some physical therapy exercises my brother told me to do (he's an army doctor). It is feeling a little better. At least, I am not coming home from work in tears. I am going to continue with the exercises and NSD. I've been back on track since Easter. I will still have to wear the "boot" most of the time but I am hoping for the best.

Good health to all!!
