Hi all- I am about three weeks into my no starch diet. I have only had one evening where the pain seemed a bit diminished. I enjoy eating fruit and I think the fruit might be continuing my flare. It seems odd to say it is a flare because my pain is constant. How are people doing with fruit? The fruits I have been eating are blueberries, apples, pineapples, and grapes. I also eat dates.

Hi,
Have you been testing them for starch?

Apples can be starchy for me depending on the time of year.

Tropical fruit such as pineapples is risky for me as it is imported so a longer time from harvest to table plus most likely to be picked less ripe and cold stored which causes it to turn starchy.

Grapes and dates (dried?) should be ok but again too much dried fruit can be an issue.

Try not to eat too much fruit (sugar content) berries are better as they contain less (I think) Your emphasis should be more on plenty of vegetables and salad stuff plus healthy fats and some protein if you take it. When I went no starch I just had apples for fruit to start with if I remember correctly.

It can also take longer than three weeks while your body adjusts so be patient. You need to compare in weeks and months rather than days as the changes are minimal day to day.

Hope this helps

x

Fruits contain high levels of fructose which within hours stimulate production of TNF-alpha.
