I've been getting cysts or nodules in my hands and fingers for awhile now.

Last fall, I got this rather large one at the base of my left middle finger. So long as I don't try to open a jar, it doesn't hurt, not pressing on any nerves, etc. Last year after a few months, it disappeared. This fall, it came back.

But there are two others, one on the right finger joint on the palm side of the finger and another, on the base of my left pinkie toward the side of the hand which are both pushing blood vessels up and the second one is pressing on nerves and so is painful and causing my finger to be always numb.

I asked me GP and he said to use warm compresses and if it was still there in three months, he'd cut it out.

My chiro said to use ice instead and don't let the GP cut it out (which I agree with).

I will show my rheumy when I go back in about 2 months as scheduled.

But in the meantime, what have you done to treat them? The ones that aren't painful I know to just leave be. But the painful one, what do you do? what kind of doctor do you go to to get them treated?

Last fall I went to a good general orthopedist for my right ulnar wrist (he had helped me with my left ulnar wrist years ago) and also to one of the best hand surgeons in town.

Which of those two doctors would you see, especially if it needs to be cut out because its cutting off a nerve and blood vessel?

Have you had it scanned? Wouldn't let anyone cut on anything without a good scan being done first. Warm compresses or ice? Have you tried either? Go with the one that helps most. Is it dominant hand? I'd go with hand surgeon if you are comfortable with him.

Sucks to have hands hurting. Sorry you are dealing with it. Especially with the discrepancy between the two docs as to hot or cold. Seems like they don't really know what to do for you. Eeek.
