If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I have developed a small but extremely painful wrist ganglion, that is sending nerve aches right up my arm as far as my elbow. Has anyone else had one of these where the pain seemed to be out of proportion to the size of the ganglion? What did you do to relieve it? Is it worth asking about aspiration? At the moment I am just splinting it and putting ice on, but neither is really relieving it much.

Not a ganglion cyst, but a different kind of "cyst" on the side of my hand. It was pressing against a nerve and causing pain and numbness. I did have it surgically removed.
Size doesn't really matter, location matters more. I've had bigger cysts that were pain free due to not pressing on a nerve. If its small but positioned in such a way that its pressing on a nerve, it can cause a lot of pain.
Probably easiest is to have it aspirated, but its very likely to come back. If its removed, it won't come back. Left alone, likely will disappear too, but if its causing too much pain, best to have it removed either by aspiration or surgically.
In the meantime? I, like you, usually go to ice, which works great for my tendon / ligament inflammation and muscle spasms, but for nerve pain, I really haven't found much other than stopping the nerve compression.
Sorry you're having this pain. Nerve pain is really frustrating.

I've had a ganglion cyst on my right hand for over 40 years. It's never hurt or caused any problems. I just call it "my bump" I've had some random swellings in the same area that have caused pain but it's the usual tendonitis pain.
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. Plato

Hi cemc,... Since it is causing so much pain, I'd be inclined to ask your doctor if it can be removed without much difficulty. It sure does not sound fun.
I'm not sure what it is, but last year I suddenly had a lump appear on the palm of my right hand. The next day, a matching lump appeared on the palm of my left hand! Sort of freaky. My family doc didn't think it was anything to worry about... told me what he thought it was but I've since forgotten the name. Basically painless so the plan was to do nothing, and see if it goes away on it's own.
Showed my Rheumy and she looked a bit more concerned than my family doc... but she also felt we should just keep an eye for now and if they grew then she wanted to get imaging done. A year later, both lumps seem to have broken into a scattering of smaller lumps but they're still basically painless... and seem less scary than a big lump.
Nerve aches up to your elbow sounds problematic. Hope it disappears for you, or proves not too difficult to get rid of!

I have a ganglion on my right wrist. I call it my inflammation detector. It will swell up and then 'deflate'. Only pain I am experiencing is when I have to put any pressure on that palm. Then it feels weak and hurts like heck.

I have growths that look like cysts as well. In fact, I have five of them in total. Two small ones on my left wrist and one larger one on my right wrist. All three of these would be in the same location as you explained Cemc. Further, I have two more on of them on the internal aspect and top of my left foot. One is so large that I simply call it my second ankle!
For me there was not any rhyme or reason to explain when they would arrive on my body nor when they would stop growing. All five of my cyst or cyst-like growths are very hard to the touch. I don't believe aspiration any contents is not in the equation for me. With my immunity problems and with my Rheumy's blessing, I have made the decision at this point not to change anything yet them with personal, medical, or surgical interventions.
I am well aware that Sue has been a long-term poster on this forum but I would still like to second her advice and information she provided. My Rheumy "continues to monitor my cyst growths but is not inclined to intervene at this point as they not causing me problems.
Lastly, as Sue mentioned, if the cysts are growing in an area in which they are pressing on a nerve or nerves, the pain can be pretty awful. At this point, I would personally bring the problem of the cyst growth and nerve pain to my Rheumy agin.
I wish you well! TheWino
