Hi guys, it's been a while, but the prodigal is back for a while. I've been off tilting at dragons, and have been remarkably unsuccessful. My AS dragon is once again fighting back. This time, the dragon wants my neck. It already has the rest of my back, not to mention my ribs. So my Rheumatologist is suggesting Humira. I'm all for it, with one caveat. Because of the dragon's friend, CES/peripheral neuropathy, I use a catheter to pee 3 times a day. (Sorry if this is distasteful.) Has anyone used Humira while catheterizing? It would be nice to know if the two are compatible. I'm looking forward to hearing from all my old friends (who are not really so old, but certainly friends.)

Thanks Alan, I'm not sure how your dad using a catheter helps, but I'll bet that in your mind it somehow does. I chose Humira because it worked better in the past, and is not as extremely expensive here in the US. At least on my insurance. We'll see how it works. I was mostly concerned about a UTI while taking Humira, and using the catheters. We'll see, I guess.

How have you been these past years. Sorry I haven't been around to bug you. I see there's no new jokes since 2014. Pity. I'll have to look into that.

I don't use humira (or any biologic) but I do use catheters. I'd say that unless you are having regular and frequent infections right now without the humira, it is probably going to be fine with the humira as long as you keep up the clean technique for intermittent self catheterisation. Interestingly there is some evidence that neurogenic bladder problems (and other CES-AS symptoms) do improve with biologics - its a 2009 paper, but I think still very interesting http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19479855

Thanks Cemc. I've heard anecdotal accounts of this, but have never heard of a study or a write up about it. Thanks, I'm hopeful that over time the CES will improve, and maybe even the Peripheral Neuropathy.
