Wow, your ESR was 144?! I don't want to turn this into a who's-ESR-was-highest discussion, but that's the highest number I've seen. Surely you were in a LOT of pain. My doctor told me that mine was one of the highest he'd ever seen, just being in the 80's.

I'm so glad for your success. Keep it up!

Arindam,

Great post!

Checking to see if the diet is still working for you.

I am indian too - 31 years old. Now that i have a flare up (knee pain and swelling in right knee) after 5 years, i am trying out the diets that has worked for people. I started with the 3-day apple only fast -- it did not help as the inflammation kept increasing. And i have been on no starch diet for the last 2+ weeks. I feel less stiff in the mornings but that cud also be bcos i am doing yoga and physiotherapy exercised quite diligently now a days.

Being (south) indian, i find it hard to quit rice and daal. I've just been eating curries.

Being from the same part of the world, i'm guessing our genetic make up must be similar. Since its been abt 3 years since ur post, i am checking to see how the diet you mentioned is working for you. I know bengali's eat a lot of rice smile.

Thank you for sharing and I'm so glad to hear of your success. Just curious, did your diet allow or restrict beans?

Hi Jay,

The 3 day apple fast is really simple. For three days you eat nothing but apples, and can drink water, or tea if you prefer. The apples are typically suggested to be the red delicious variety.

Personally when I fast on fruit for AS just stick to non starchy fruit and don't worry too much about it. I would typically eat grapes, pears, other berries, mandarins, oranges as well as apples, and drink juices too.

I'm in remission now, but when my AS was active I would be pain free and feeling energetic and great on the third day.

Stay away from bananas and stone fruit like apricot mango plum avocado Etc at least until you are well.

To your health smile
Z

Cooldood,
Better test the curries with iodine tincture / betadine, and also make sure there is no dairy in it too as some people react to that also. For many of us even a very modest amount of starch can still bring on full blown inflammation. Ghee and meet are safe. Most seem to have no issue with a modest amount of spices however they can be starchy too.
