Hi everyone.

I usually do great with NSD, unless I hurt myself. I have a minor injury in my foot, which is wigging out because of the spondy monster. I have spoken to my compounding pharmacist and he could make me predisone or possibly medrol w/o starch with a prescription. How bad would that be for my overall health? I cannot walk at all at this point, even after resting it for a week.

Also, I should mention that I had a bad reaction to a corticosteroid in the past.... made the pain MUCH worse... however, after about 6 weeks all the pain went away forever.

Any advice/thoughts would be great.

It depends upon how much You have used steroids in the past. Occasionally, I need a pred taper for my gout (and can You be certain what You have now is not gout?)

The EVOO and borage seed oil should help if it is AS, but if it feels SHARP, like walking on broken uneven glass, it could be plantar fasciitis. In which case I recommend beating feet very roughly against the cement (gunite) sides of good Jacuzzi pool--strike from every possible angle; it will be sharp pain at first but will dull rapidly alternate against jet, then more strikes.

Later on, take magnesium citrate (~2oz) after this and eat fresh fruit: Pineapple, grapes, cherries, plums, melons, blueberries, etc. If up for it, do fruit monodiet 2-3 days cherries only would work.

There is an NSAID cream available--Pennsaid (I'm AFRAID of it but my wife has used it with some success). Also a stretching sling for night use to keep foot in tension. Exercises against wall--push hard against food at very acute forward angle.

HEALTH,
John

Hi John,

Thanks so much.

I am going to ask for a gout test when I see the doctor in a week. However, it is not visibly swollen and the pain seems to move around too much to be gout. I will go to bed with the pain around my big toe and then wake up with it in the 2nd and third or third and forth toe. It will move a few times a day. The pain seems a bit more on the top of my metatarsal joints, which might suggest enthesitis. I was having God awful pain in the extensor tendons on the top of my foot, but that seems to have settled since pretty much being on bed rest for a week. I just walk across the apartment 5-6 times a day. I bought some moldable inserts to support my high arch, so I no longer feel like I am completely reinjuring it every time I need to get up. It just does not seem like it is healing.

I am certain it is not PF, as the bottom of my foot is fine. I had that 20+ years ago and will not soon forget that pain!! However, I was lucky as it always went away once I got up and stretching. With this, even mild stretching sets it ablaze, so no banging for me!!!

I cannot do much fruits, but I will up my EVOO and try borage oil again, as I have not taken it for years.

I have some both Voltaren Gel and a topical ketoprofen, but neither seem to break the pain and I am worried about my stomach. Perhaps it is psychosomatic, but I do feel that my digestion goes off after several days of continuous use. I actually am getting better relief from a concoction of essential oils with an olive oil/arnica base. However.... I do need to go back to work if I expect to keep my health insurance. Luckily, I have some wiggle room, but this is making me nuts.
