Hello everyone! It is my first message, with which I want to thank the entire community for their supportive collaboration to improve everyone's lives.

That being said, I wanted to share some information I recently discovered. It turns out that mushrooms have a disaccharide carbohydrate, called trehalose. To digest this disaccharide, we need a certain digestive enzyme (I don't remember its name). . The problem is that many people's bodies do not manufacture this digestive enzyme and trehalose becomes food for various intestinal bacteria. I don't know if Klebsiella feeds on trehalose, but I think it does.

I leave a couple of links so that someone, if interested, can take a look and think about the topic.

Abur!

I forgot to say that I am spondylitic, and that yesterday I had a good day, with hardly any pain or stiffness. When night came, I had a plate of Pleurotus sp for dinner, and today I had a very bad day, with a lot of back pain, stiffness and gastric discomfort.

Correlation? I don't know, but I'm going to leave mushrooms out of my food for a long time, to see if the negative symptoms don't return.

Hello 604,

I do not recall eating mushrooms early on with diet... so unsure how sensitive I may have been to them. Now in Argentina and 22 years on diet (started March 2002 here at Kickas) I eat mushrooms on occasion without issue.

But I have healed immensely my GI tract in last 5-6 years, so many "fringe foods" I could not eat before and even some starchy foods (whole rice) I eat almost daily now with no impact to my AS.

Best to you on finding what works for you.

Tim

AS may win some battles, but I will win the war.
