Hi everyone. I am new here and fairly new to AS. I was diagnosed as being HLA-B25 in June, at the Amsterdam University hospital after yet another evil bout of Iritis. They took blood tests and then decided to run some x-rays which showed some damage to my hip joints. I get chronic pains in my lower back and mainly down my left hip and leg.

I seem to get two other symptoms at the same time, but have not seen them mentioned here. I get severe inflamation in my hands and feet, and I also get a red, raised blotch appear on my skin on my left hip. My girlfriend says that she can tell I am about to have a flare up because the blotchy mark either reappears, or becomes much more red. The mark does not hurt or irritate me in any way and my girlfriend notices it before I do.

Does anyone else have similar experiences or am I just a little wierd.

Interestingly, my ex wife gets a red blotchy mark on her neck, which she was told was some form of auto immune problem, but I dont know what the final diagnosis was.

Thanks to everyone for the interesting hints and tips that have been posted. I am reading my way through them and trying to get some work done at the same time.

Hi, and welcome to KA! Do your hands and feet swell or do they just turn red? When I'm flaring my hands get very stiff and sore and my left foot and ankle also gets red and swollen. Never had any blotches, though.

Hi Cheryl & Shirley

Thanks for your speedy responses and your welcoming messages. Its nice to know you are not alone.

When I am flaring, my hands become very sore and swollen. I wear a signet ring, and have to remove it or it becomes unbearably tight. I had to have it cut off once because my fingers were so swollen. My hands become visibly red and very warm at the point where my fingers join my hands. I do sometimes have the same problems with my feet, but only when things are very bad.

Stuart,

Welcome to Kickas. I hope you find the information and support to help you 'find your way' - there is alot of info here in the posts - just search on keywords, and also in the pages on the main pages.

Leicestershire eh? I spend 7 years in various parts of Leicester - whereabouts are you (there is another notable Kickas'r near you somewhere- but I'll let him introduce himself to you!)

I'm also in the software industry - what do you do / who for?

Cheers for now
Jo

This redness and swelling of the hands sounds like the Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms my sister gets.... dunno, just a thought - not really qualified to make those sorts of comments

Cheers

Hi Jo.

I live in Quorn, just outside Loughborough, but I also live in Weinheim in Germany, which is nrar Heidleberg. I work here in Germany at the moment, been here 6 months, but spent the two years before that in Amsterdam, 4 years in Zurich and 4 + years in Frankfurt. I go back to England a couple of times a month to see my Son and Daughter. I work on IBM AS400's, designing and developing software. I am a freelance consultant.
