I was nagged into trying to write a song about KA, so I did.....is very poor!!!

If you go to my profile and access the homepage of my website you will see the link there. It is quite a big file so will take some seconds to download. If you think it is ok, reply on this thread so it stays live for a while for folks to see Thank you all so much

If you hate it, please lie dreadfully to me and the co writer (female, blonde..?) and tell us you like it anyway

oh dear what have I done

First, I did not not not nag you... that is a big fib and no-one will believe you, so there!

Has taken so long to put this up that Sue22 is no longer new, wow, she's been here a whole year now!

This is such a treat Alan, thank you. You are a star and I am very lucky to have you as my friend.

Nice to hear your voice, Alan! Even though I've lived in Canada since 1985, I still have an English accent!

Your song's a lot of fun.

THat was absolutely TERRIFIC.

Would never in a million years have thought of marrying AS to KAlypso music but this is why I do not make the big bucks.

If I didn't know what AS was and heard your KickAS Kalypso I'd think I want to go out and get me some.

Thank you for the wonderful work you did to put that together with your co=writer and tech support.

Bruno would thank you to but the big guy is sorta choked up. I never thought there'd be a day where I'd see him calypso across my kitchen floor.

Hi Steve, well trust that this will encourage you to hone those Limbo Dance skills. Love comment about associating AS with Calypso, is a bit incongruous but I guess you know, that AS has at least given us access to some pretty nice people across the world.....apart from Lisa who has wrecked her computer..........I see you have deduced the co-writers identity....lol

Hi Alan,

I was born in Cornwall(Redruth),travelled around a bit because my dad was in the RN. Mostly lived in Cornwall unti we moved to B.C. Canada in 1985. My three children were all born in the UK, two in Cornwall. My husband's family all live near Penzance.

Loved your accent.
Posted By: ineptwill Re: The KA KAlypso - 01/18/09 05:57 PM
wow, a gorgeous place to leave behind. One of the lovelier spots in England. I wonder if you have a cornish twang then, lovely accent. Unlike my Nottingham dullness...lol

All KAers should visit Cornwall. Wonderful

Do you come back often?

Simply marvellous. Maybe they can imbed your music onto the Homepage? Or at least put a link to it there?
Posted By: wolverinefan Re: The KA KAlypso - 01/19/09 12:30 PM
Alan,

Somehow I just noticed this post (hmm, perhaps because I'm constantly stuck over in the Asylum talking about music these days? I might be onto something there!) and of course I immediately downloaded this wonderful bit of whimsy called the "KA Kalypso." Now, I haven't had time to read any of the other responses yet, so I have no doubt that I'll be repeating some things you've heard several times already, but since they are all good things, there's no real problem there, eh?

Alan, that was simply brilliant! Thank you SO MUCH for showing the courage to post your work once you finished it--I know it can be very hard to put your special creations out there for public consumption, as that public can tend to be rather ravenous at times and very good at chewing people up and spitting them out. Well, you need not have worried in this case! Not only did you have a built-in audience that was going to be predisposed to love your composition, but as I've mentioned, you went ahead and made it brilliant anyhow, which certainly makes it all the easier to love!

Oddly enough, I've always enjoyed that calypso sound, especially steel drums. When I saw that you had picked that rhythm for your song, that made me even more eager to give it a listen. It was an inspired choice to pair with your spoken-word style--a fine match. However, because you did choose that spoken-word style, I do have one bit of very bad news of which I'm afraid I must be the bearer Alan; I think you should sit down if you aren't already. OK, here goes:

Alan, you just released your first rap single.

I'm sitting here keeping my fingers crossed that you're still with us after that revelation, that you didn't fall out of your chair in shock and disgust. You see, I already know your opinion of that particular style of music--as well as most other rock and pop --so I know I was taking a real chance by hitting you with that bombshell, but what choice did I have? That's what friends do--they take the bull by the horns when necessary and tell their friends the terrible little things that nobody else will tell them. I knew I simply had to buck up and be a man about the whole thing, so there it is; it's out in the open now, and if need be, we can all pitch in to get you the therapy you'll almost certainly be needing after this no doubt stunning turn of events!

Goodness, if you're a rapper, we need to come up with a new rap stage name for you! Seeing as rap is actually a form of music that I rather enjoy, I suppose I can take a stab at this one. Let's see, the pressure's on now . . .

DJ Danger Will? No? Ok . . .

Da' KA Kid? Ooh, that one has potential . . . Kid KA maybe?

The Notorious I.W.? Nah, we need another initial to make that one work. Wait, I know--the Notorious U.K.A., with the A for Alan being fairly obvious, I hope! Oh, I think we might have a winner there. Dare I let mig decide? Why do I think she might rather enjoy being in charge of choosing your rap name after being called, what was it, a 'clot' I believe? (Yep, I just checked it out on Google--why Alan, I am shocked, SHOCKED at your term of endearment for mig . . . wait a minute, no I'm not, not even a little! )

That's it then--mig, as payback, I'll leave you in charge of selecting Alan's rap name. You've seen my suggestions, I encourage others to add their own if they think of any! How does that work for you?

(OK, enough of my kidding around: My initial comments were my true feelings of course, Alan. Your song was, to borrow from Dave Eggers, who I quite like, a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. I loved every second of it, and I am SO happy that you decided to share it with us. Bravo to you, my friend, and all I can add is that you have permanently ccemented your place in KA lore. Well, as if you hadn't done that already! This endeavor pretty much earns you your own wing in the KA Hall of Fame I think! Great job, kudos, bravo, huzzah, and all those other compliments--you've truly outdone yourself sir!)

Well, bless my sweetie, he converted this into a file I could hear at the office. I've just spent 9:59 of my boss's time in the most delightful fashion. Your protestations at the chorus were divine, my dear, especially when after inviting us to write one, you came up with one yourself!!

You most definitely did put a smile on this KAer's face and it was quite wonderful to hear the sound of the dulcet tones of your voice.

You are a love. A bit of a clot yourself, but a love nonetheless.

Thank you for this.

Love and hugs,

Alan,

Tori helped me and I heard it!

I have to say it hit me in a different way....I loved everything you said and you are a genious just to be able to do this but you never let us forget what a dreadful disease this is as I sit here today in so much pain with my jaw joint I just had tears streaming down my face and the last words that someday we will find a cure is what keeps me going.

I would have listen to this if it had been 45 minutes long..lol

What an awesome way to honor our friends here and all who put KickAS together..Im not sure where I would be today if I had not found this website and all who are here. And although we all might not agree or get along or know each other, it gives us hope for the future.

Thank you for making my day!

And I can't really agree that Mig is a clot, but if she is she is probly the most beautiful clot I have seen.

That's what I was thinking mig! I read that post, then I did a doubletake . . . "Did Alan just compliment mig?" I said to myself.

Sure enough! I read it again, and I realized that I had read things correctly. You should absolutely take that to a print shop, get it done up all nice and pretty in a special font, then frame it for posterity.

Alan, what do you have to say for yourself? A moment of weakness where you lost your head, is that it? Or perhaps you un-clotted just long enough to let your true feelings slip?

(Pssss......methinks the last one is spot on!)

Always a pleasure, and thank you for the kind words earlier in the thread! By the way, just want to tell you--and put it out here for all to read--if you are ever able to make it over to Toronto again, I promise I will drive over no matter what happens to be going on in my life at that time, as I would not miss a chance to join the lucky club that has met you in person!

I have been reliably informed by Chambers dictionary (I had to look it up cos I didn't know either!) that a hornpipe is:

"hornpipe noun 1 an old Welsh musical instrument, often with a mouthpiece or bell made from horn. 2 a a lively solo jig, conventionally regarded as popular amongst sailors; b the music for this dance."

So it's a sailors jig, apparently!

Posted By: mig Re: The KA KAlypso - 01/20/09 09:53 AM
Not sure if anyone's told you this yet Brad, but I'm afraid Alan is not speaking to you! (pssst, it's on another thread) And it is for this reason that I hesitate and haven't come up with a name yet,... lest I suffer the same fate! You see, it's taken me many years to get this one compliment out of him, and I dread a return to those days when he used to call me something else, incessantly!

So I am taking this to the framers as you so wisely suggest, laying low and just counting myself lucky!

Mig, I honestly think you should not only frame it, but matt it and put a special light over it for eternity. Perhaps have a vase full of flowers under it that you refresh on a regular basis, with a cd player that plays the KA Kalypso over and over, so you never forget.

Yah, that's the ticket!

Warm hugs,

Well, I'm with you on the matt and the light Kat... but that whole refreshing a vase full of flowers thing is starting to sound like work! lol

Warm hugs back at ya!
Posted By: Inanna Re: The KA KAlypso - 01/20/09 03:34 PM
I see your point, Mig. However, with the KA Kalypso playing, you could dance while changing the flowers. That way, it's more fun AND you get some exercise. Not that you need it, of course.

Hi Molly, check the email addie that you have in your profile. I've forwarded you the file that my sweetie did for me because I couldn't access the one on Alan's website. RealPlayer kept telling me I was missing components to play the file, so it would start to download them, then it would tell me that the components it was trying to download don't exist. After a fair bit of pooter wizardry, my sweetie was able to make it so I could play it.

Warm hugs,

well Mig bleeped Old jack top
for swearing on here
Brad thought that'I'd got
all kindly and fair
Others feign shock
at my foolish comment
but misunderstand
what exactly I meant
For confirming was I
what Lisa had said
That Mig was a clot
And dozy too, when lying in bed
Not being nice
no never, not me
I told you all twice
To look out for me
why all the fuss
why all clapping in glee
for Mig is no nicer
than wondrous old me.

yayayay
well she is really though

xxxxx to you all and Brad you are forgiven so Mig said I can talk to you now....lol

Oh, I forgot. If I'm keeping my hazel eye on you, would you please ensure that your wardrobe matches? Greens are always good, and blue.

Hugs,

Hi Wanda,... for you and Molly, if you are having trouble downloading the file, it might be a firewall setting.

If your browser is IE, try this:
Go to the browser's TOOLS menu > Internet Options > click Security Tab > click the CUSTOM LEVEL button > scroll down to DOWNLOADS section and look for FILE DOWNLOAD then click the radio button to 'enable'. See if this allows you to download the file but remember to go back in afterwards and reset the button to 'disable' again.

Let me know if this works, ok?

Hugs

" (or more)" ...

Um would you believe 71 people and two dogs..? (sorry, I've been watching too many old Get Smart episodes lately.. lol)

Of course I'd no idea what those two phrases meant but you seemed to expect them to go missing and I just didn't wanna let you down.

Seriously tho, I wish you all the best in this transition; I imagine it must be a difficult and significant change to wrap your mind around. Hope you recognise that your service to our country is something you get to keep, always, and be very very proud of!

Hugs!

Hey Alan,

Been way to busy, finally had time to listen to the KA KAlypso tonight and was well worth listening to. Was not quite 45 minutes long... so I think you still have some more work to do

Also a good reminder to post a Weekend Question again.

Thanks for the smile,

Tim

Glad Mig put you up to KAlypso!! Loved it!
Now you just have to work on the chorus....you did a mighty fine job with the rest.

I love reading the witty posts you and Mig write! Always puts a smile on even with I don't really feel like it!!

Thanks you guys!!
