I've been through some strange and rough times through my life. Don't get me wrong, I wouldnt be without them, they are why I am who I am today. But they have forced me to think more about some things than maybe all people have to. As I am sure most of you have too.
You develop defense strategies in such situations, or you don't survive. For me one is an attitude to life, call it a motto, if you wish, but I suspect it means a litle more to me than for some.
I think I stole it partly from some poets, and frankly it doesnt matter to me who or if I did, but for me the guiding light has been these words for years;
I will not go silently into the dark
I will RAGE against the dying of the light
What's yours?
Love
gilth
I've had a few through the years but this one has stuck:
Where your mind goes your life follows.
Hard to remember when my mind goes places it shouldn't:
Anger= hurt, fear and frustration
Happy Friday!
Hi,
I am trying to go by this one not very succesfully though

βIt is better to have lived one day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep.β β Tibetan saying.
Also don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
Make the most of every day you have because it may be your last.
Hi: I have always said, "Any other way, it would be too easy."...Tom
The unbroken sprirt obscured and disquiet finds clearness this trial demands for at the of the day, sighs an anxious relief for his fortune lies still in his hands.
Yeah you stole it from that auspicious American poet Rodney Dnagerfield in Back TO School.
From 10-20 Mantra-- "We can rebuild him, we can make him faster, we can make him stronger" ... and so began the insertion of mechanical replacement parts into my young body.
from 20-30 mantra--- "Pass the beer"
from 30-40 mantra--- "why is it so bright in here"
from 40-50 mantra--- "get busy living or get busy dying" also fond of "too blessed to stress."
I'm a slow learner.
Mine is at the bottom of my post. I try to follow it as much as possible.
"Enbrel, Lyrica, Skalaxan,Oxycodone, blah blah blah blah"?
Sorry, couldn't resist...
No matter how bad you think you have it, there is always someone worse off than you with a better attitude.
here's one i like:
"this too shall pass"
For anyone else who's curious about Gilth's poetic inspiration:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_not_go_gentle_into_that_good_nightI like Gilth's version better though.
I have a lot of different ones that I think of at different times. One is "If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.".
Today....."Sometimes you are the peacock and sometimes you are the feather duster." Don't feel like the peacock too often any more. :o)
I agree with "This, too, shall pass.". That is one of my husband's favorite and we say it a lot around here.
I enjoy all of your mantras and get a lot of encouragement.
Have a great weekend.
Possi
NOOOO!!! that's not my mantra...THANKS for the laugh!!!
I ask not for an easy life, but for the strength I need to accept the challenge.
SJLC,
That cracked me up when you posted Jeff's mantra, funny.
"There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands."
Richard Bach"Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours."
Richard Bachand...
Color outside the lines!
from 40-50 mantra--- "get busy living or get busy dying"
That is also from the Shawshank Redemption, a favorite movie of mine. Love the quote.
Tim
These there are the ones i follow
Every Struggle in my life has shaped me into the person i am today. Be thankful for the hardtimes; they can only make you stronger.
You Know my name, not my STORY.
You've Heard What I've done, NOT WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH
Life is full of Challenges
BEING HAPPY should'nt be one of them
I really don't have a mental slogan.
However what keeps me sane is being a atheist. Understanding Im not "being put through some kind of trial" that will all come out in the wash.
I appreciate being alive with an existence more than that of a tree or a flower; even though that involves being in pain. Living in our Non-Newtonian universe is a great place. Realizing what it is makes it even better.
Forget where I read this I think it was in Hitch 22 and was a Proverb from the east
When the axe came into the woods, the trees trembled and said "at least the handle is one of us"
i guess i have a few lurking around, LOL!
here's another of mine:
"where there's a will, there's a way"
You can't control what people may say about you, but you do control what they should say about you.
If it looks like dog crap, and smells like dog crap, don't step in it......its probably dog crap.
