Does anyone on here suffer with a sore mouth and tongue. Or is it just me had it for months just as I think its cleared up its back.Stings when I eat or drink anything.
Kevin.
I've had periods of time when I've suffered from this, Kevin. Not too bad right now. At first, I thought it was linked with my GERD. Then, there was a suspicion that I had lupus - this was before my joint problems really got going. I had a lot of mouth ulcers with the generally sore mouth and tongue.
Now, I think it may be sjogrens or GERD - not really sure. I'm waiting to see if it gets worse with the methotrexate.
Thanks Wendy thats interesting I get a very dry mouth at night too.I will mention it at my next checkup.

hi kevin,
for the last year or two or longer? i get inflamed tongue bumps, doesn't look like much (just an inflamed bump here or there), but boy do they hurt. not sure what causes them, but never used to get them. and sometimes sores in other parts of my mouth and i wonder if i did something dumb and just don't remember, but they seem to happen too frequently and never used to happen, so i wonder if its all connected. i wonder too, am i dehydrated? is that doing it? or is it autoimmune? or endocrine related? i've asked doctors, but no one is very sure.
as for dry mouth, mine is caused by the muscle relaxant, zanaflex, that i take. its not too bad though if i drink a full glass of water when i take the zanaflex, and if i'm awake an hour later when the side effects start to kick in, drink another glass or two or three. could it be medication related for you? if so, drinking more might help like it does for me. if its autoimmune related, i imagine that it could be harder to "fix".

Hi Sue
Ive had it for quite a while. The only meds I take that could cause it are my inhalers for my C.O.P.D but I use a mouth wash after Ive taken them so it shouldnt effect my mouth. Doctors dont seem interested in minor problems. Its just so annoying everythng you put in your mouth is like its red hot.Have to drink more cold beer wont cure it but wll make me feel better.

Thanks Kevin
Yes Kevin. Had it for years, comes and goes in frequency and painfulness. All part of the jigsaw I'm afraid. Time that really 'got' me was when I had an ENT appt, had had a horrible mouth of sores and such. Came the appt, and, all clear! Couldn't invent it. Sigh.
No. Don't do owt for em. Did try OTC stuff but didn't work and really can't be bothered belabouring the fact of the matter to the doctor - they aint interested and just look at one like one is...????? (Being a pain in de AS..)

Hi Molly
Yes know what you mean Its just so damned annoying.
Take care
Kevin

Doctors dont seem interested in minor problems....
yes kevin, that's the kind of responses i've gotten too. and like molly said, 1/2 the time its cleared up mostly. and if they can't see it, it doesn't exist,
i can understand, if i was a doctor, it would be hard to dx something i couldn't see.
so, have decided to just focus on the big stuff.
i report it once so they know, then move on.
figure if it becomes a big enough problem.......

hey Kevin,
Yes, I am having this now for the first time, and its awful. Having it along with the absessed tooth.
Mouth is extremely dry.
lips get a film if I do not drink water
tongue has small white blisters
have large white blisters with red circles surounding them on upper lip and inside of cheeks.
Feels like my mouth and tongue are on fire.
Even water produces a mildly uncomfortable feeling in the mouth.
It could be the sojgrens, it could be one of the meds that cause dry mouth, it could be an alergic reaction to a medication, it could be a virus, or it could simply be another symptom of an auto immune disorder.
Anyone find anything to help it go away fast? LOL
Right now,as per the docs orders, I am gargling with salt water (which burns and, I dunno, seems to me would be counter productive cause I get sores in my mouth from salt)and I'm rinsing with malox.
What are you all doing?
Hugs,
Chele
for the dry mouth from my drugs, i just drink a lot of water when i take the drugs.
as for the inflamed tongue bumps and any other sores, time.
nothing else i know to do? but maybe others have solutions. i'd like to know.
fortunately, they aren't all the time, so the just letting them go away seems to be ok for now.

Hey Keven and everyone interested,
I have had some success in reducing the mouth sores/pain overnight by doing the following:
I stopped using regular toothpaste (containing SLS-sodium laural sulfate ?sp? sup. this foamer can cause irritation if one is sensitative to it) and made a toothpaste of just hydrogen peroxide and baking soda with a small dash a salt.
2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide, 2 tablespoons water, 1/4 teaspoon salt.
2. I have been taking benadryl. 50 mgs, every 6 hours.
3. I have been rinsing my mouth with a 50/50 mix of salt water hydrogen peroxide followed by a rinse of malox.
I do the rinses after I brush my teeth, and after meals.
I have been drinking extra water.
what of that is helping, dunno, could be all of it together. I'm just glad it is.
Hope you able to get relief or that any of this is able to help.
Hugs and totally laying off the chocolate,
Chele
Thanks for that Chele hadnt thought of toothpast I will give it a go and let you know.
Kevin totally not of chocolate
oops sorry Kevin, that is how I make the gargle.
For the toothpaste, I just put a pea sized about of baking soda in a saucer, and add a drop of hydrogen peroxide to make a thick paste. The taste is not great, LOL but if you make a larger batch, you can add a bit of vanilla or mint for flavor.
Hugs:)
I see trying to poison me
I have had the same problem all my life. Toothpaste could be a problem, however; mine is also a reaction to the medications. The only thing that relieves the pain and heals is OSHA root. I gargle three times a day(after each meal and after brushing my teeth).
Hope you feel better soon. Regards, Art
Thanks for that Art anything is worth a try.
Kevin
It's hard to find a toothpaste without the SLS...if you don't like the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda, one brand you could try is Sensodyne Pronamel. Rembrandt used to make one, but I can't find it any longer.
kevin,
I call it hot tongue.
ice cream, carbonated beverages, some peppers set mine off.
A member of my church had it so I kind of had some experience with it. Of course you should go to a Dr. But my experience is, it keeps me from eating ice cream....
oh hey Keven and anyone interested,
Found a toothpaste today at my local grocery store for around $7.00 for 4.5 oz. It is called biotene. Its made specifically for dry mouth. It contains no SLS, and has antibacterial enzimes and biologicals that are supposed to restore your mouth's natural defenses.
here is the link to their site:
if you would like to check it out.
Hugs,

Ive been using colestoral lowering probiotic yoghurt drinks
for my colestoral and my mouth has cleared up must be the live cultures in it. Give it a try Mine feels great now.

Yog is good. Plain yog is the best. Don't touch Actimel though nor any of those ones. Marketing hype and very little (trace) of the good buggles in it! ALSO, the Actimels of this world contain Aspartame... You don't want to go there - Aspartame and ALL artificial sweeteners are BAD for inflammatory arthritic conditions. (Plain *bad for anyone*, full stop!

)
Straightforward plain yog, and IF you want to drink it, break down with a fork, pop in a bit of fruit and if wanted, an ice cube, enjoy.
BTW. On very hot days nowt better than a cooling 'lassie' drink - lassie is a yog drink with a pinch of salt and ice cubes, swooshed around with a fork, dead simple/straightforward. Yummy. Swore by it when I lived in India. Cools down the centre of the body. Terrific stuff.

Hey, Chele - thanks for this. I'm going to try and track some down.

It could be the mouth wash that is causing the problem. It's great for killing bacteria, but kills the good along with the bad
Last year I decided to increase my dental hygene by using mouth wash, and it caused a severe candida (thrush) infection in my mouth. Was in pain for two weeks!
Get your GP to take a swab, it could be oral thrush.
Hope this helps!
Emma.
Hi Emma
Its definitely not thrush I have great experiance of that Im diabetic.I take your point on the mouth wash though. I will leave it out and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks
Kevin
For those that get mouth ulcers - I have found that Kenalog oral paste works really well at stopping them in their tracks if you get it on soon enough, or at least stopping them getting bigger and helping them to heal. The active ingredient is Triamcinolone Acetonide, and in looking that up I have just found out that it it is a corticosteriod.
I'm diabetic too (Type 1)!! I think there should be health warnings on mouth wash, especially if you have diabetes. The idea is great, but your body does need the good bateria too. Thrush is a pain when you are diabetic, especially when female (I'm sure you can understand what I mean

)!!
The fact that you seemed to improve with natural probiotics does point to thrush. Hope leaving out the mouth wash helps!
Emma.
Hi Emma
I can assure you it can be just as bad when your a man thats how I know its not thrush very painfull.

Kevin
Kevin,
Kind of sounds like thrush-yeast infection in your mouth. The burning when eating or drinking anything is how I feel when I get it. Meds cause it esp prednisone. Sugar will really make it burn if that's what it is. Can cause sores, bumps and "peeling" in the mouth. My doc usually gives me diflucan for it or mycolex tablets that you suck on and taste like yuck. TNF's can cause it too, along with the dry mouth. Someone else suggested Biotine and that does help. Alcohol can cause it or make it worse. Hope it gets better! Peace&Light
