Hi, Barbara:

I recently had a spinal fusion that was cancelled at the last minute before finally happening a month later.

A surgeon who pulled this on me would get reported to the local chapter (my postponement was due to insurance misunderstanding). If he is that confused, I would not want him operating on me. Period.

If you have snapping, perhaps you are lucky and your SIJs have not yet fused. There are some very good treatments available, right here at kickas, to avoid this.

If the source of your pain is iliac crest, you could have inflammation there; AS sometimes can affect the entire pelvic cage and in fact at any location within the periosteum, or covering of the bone, where no joint is even located. There are ways to determine whether the pain is local or referred. A nuclear bone scan might better show the site of inflammation than mri or X-rays, but if you have the films you should review them yourself for any anomalies, then find a good doctor and ask questions.

Good luck to You,
John
