As I mentioned I will have to have surgery to straighten out my neck before I have surgery to remove my thyroid, as it is possible I might have thyroid cancer (they can't know for sure until they remove it), and my neck is fused and bent so far forward that they cannot safely do the surgery until after the surgery to straighten my neck. From what I understand, after the surgery my head and neck is to be in a halo for about three months, and the thyroid surgery will either be performed halfway through or after the halo is removed. I also have to have an MRI in about ten days.
I want to go into this with the most positive attitude, but am actually very nervous. I have had AS for about 40 years, I also have artificial hip joints. I don't know how I can even get through an MRI, the CT scan was very hard. As for the surgery, of course, it would be nice to be able to look straight out again, but there are risks, and it will probably involve more surgery in the future. Any helpful or positive thoughts appreciated.
