Apples cause the release of uric acid into the blood stream. That's why "modern studies" say that apples cause gout, while apples have no purines to turn into uric acid. If you pull too much into the blood stream it can get caught up in susceptible tissue. Sodium bicarbonate can be taken to alkalize your digestive tract and help some of the acids to get removed from your body. In the mean time, slowing down on the apples might make things more managable. Potatoes contain starch, it's true, but if you don't want to take the sodium bicarb, potatoes can help neutralize things and get the acids out. Also, nettle tea helps a lot, and tastes good when you add some lemongrass to the mix. I wonder if epsom bath soaks would help. Homeopathic natrum phosphoricum might also help.
