Hi Vegetarian, how are you? Turmeric has wonderful health promoting properties that I've read about, and I'm so glad it is working for you. I believe that all spices are considered potentially problematic for people with AS. No worries if it is fine for you. Maybe some more people could add their knowledge here about this? A lot of spices also have starchy fillers added, too, if I am correct, which could be a problem for some people. I'm so glad you are able to tolerate the turmeric everyday. I love it! But I'm just being extra careful with anything potentially starchy or irritating due to two flares of uveitis/irits in a row. : (
Best,
Jan

P.S. when I test these dried spices: turmeric cinnamon, chili powder, cardamom, ginger, and turmeric with iodine they show starch. The chili powder turns purple very slowly. The others turn purple quickly. I have some dried garlic that does not test as starchy. Cumin did not test as starchy. I know there are a lot of different brands of starches which must show differences in the starch content, and I'm sure the individual spices vary in their starch content due to when they were harvested and where.

Hi Jan,

My condition is very great. Stiff this and there, but overall is okay and can back doing sport again from jogging, swim, fitness. How are you?

Turmeric has a starchy fillers added? Hmm, i guess you mean about the turmeric spice that already processed and sold in the store? Am i right? What i eat turmeric every day is raw turmeric i bought in fresh market. I dried it under the sun for some time, then i peel it, and grind it so it become powder. Then i boiled the powder in the water and press it a while then i use cheese cloth to filter the dregs.. Is it also starchy? I also make ginger like that too before i drink it, i never bought a processed ginger from store. I bought the raw one

Vegetarian,
Because tumeric is from a root, like ginger, it is likely starchy. The only way to know for sure is for you to test what you have made with iodine. It might be that you can tolerate it, it just depends on how sensitive you are.
Some folk here find that even though things like ginger and garlic can be starchy their beneficial properties, including things like anti-inflammatory effects, outweight the negative.
