Hi Reese,

That is amazing that an insurance company can determine your quality of life. I had a number of hurdles or protocoles to jump before I was allowed the HUMIRA but at no stage do the insurance companies have a say here in Australia. They stick to what they know best downunder, ripping you off for car & house insurance. All the best for the future.

Cheers
Alan

Hi Donette,

Unbelievable story, what you must have been through is just amazing. I believe I am in a similar situation to your mum (we spell it m-u-m in Australia). I was originally diagnosed with AS but have had Psoriasis on the scalp for years and the skin around my forhead and temples was like sandpaper and flaking. Another amazing part to my story is that it has now cleared up and smooth again with just a couple of rough edges. The young doctor I saw recently to start the procedure to get HUMIRA believed I also had Psoriatic Arthritis with AS tendencies. I think it was the other way round. Take care Donette, your story offers encouragement to everyone and lets hope one day there is a natural remedy and we can throw away the prescriptions, needles and tablets and whatever else it takes to cure us.

Cheers
Alan

Thanks Alan!

I definitely started this journey thinking "if there is a med, give it to me."

I was forced into the natural route! lol. But at least it is a viable option. I would feel even better if I would keep the lid on the Celebrex bottle (nsaid) and let my gut heal. But I am obstinate and so I am learning everything the hard way. I'm so glad your psoriasis is doing so well. When I went to the Montana Radon mines my tiny patches in my ears went completely away for 7 months. It is just now starting back up a little. One remedy that works for me is putting "Bag Balm" (might be one word) on my patches every night before bed. That works very well. It's original purpose is for milking cow's udders. Yum. It also works on lips to heal/prevent cold sores. It is antiseptic in nature.

Cheers to you and happy healing.
Donette

It's been six weeks that I have been on Humira. I am still doing well. I have learned that I have to be careful not to "overdo" because at 69, I also have osteoarthritis and that still hurts when I do too much. With the Humira, my fatigue is gone and I have been doing more then I should. My Rheumy reminded me about that yesterday when I was in to see him. He said that I could expect to see improvement with the Humira for another 8-12 weeks, when things should level off. It seems that you get more improvement with each shot for up to 6 months.
