If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Jeff
I have just been through 2 weeks of pain like yours which caused the soles of my feet to spasm up..or curl if you like and every time I stood up I would go through pain trying to flatten them to walk on. It started 10 days before my remicade was due so I put up with it...sort of...upped the tramadol...and I waited a week after the iv for improvement that never happened. In the end I couldn't walk hardly at all and took 50mg of pred for 7 days. Thats what my rheumy recommends for a flare like that. Day 2 of pred slightly better...each day after that better still.
Your not alone...just another AS nasty symptom!
Cheers Noelene

Hi Jeff, I get pain on the bottom of the heel on my right foot. That's also the leg where my Achilles has been giving me problems. Since the spot on the heel is where the Achilles joins, it's clear that this is normal, Achilles related, AS pain. Darnit.
Stretching, stretching, stretching and topical anti-inflammatories help, as do my orthotics and birkenstocks. I'm finding that with all the walking I'm doing with the pup, the entire area feels a lot better. For which I am grateful.
Hugs,
Kat

The heel pain was my first AS symptom...10 yrs ago. Have had the plantar fascia release surgery done on both feet. Still have some problems. Have had 2 different sets of custom orthotics. Neither worked, despite multiple adjustments.
What finally helped (that's *helped*, not *cured*) is a set of cushy inserts from the New Balance store. If you have one, just go in and tell them you want the cushiest inserts they have. I also got the cushiest style of shoe they offer since I work on concrete floors. It's been quite helpful. Then the hydrocodone does *most* of the rest.
Don't know about the toes....all my metatarsal heads hurt, more than the heels hurt. Met heads are close to the toes. But that pain is usually on the bottom of the feet because it's related to the fascia being inflamed.

rumble thanks for the cushy insert suggestion, will have to go check new balance store out! interesting that you too were never able to get orthotics to work. my podiatrist even had me trying to adjust by just sitting in them, feet planted on ground for a minute or so initially and building up supposedly to an hour before trying to walk in them, again slowly building up the time. never got past about 10 minutes of sitting. she finally gave up on the idea. weird that some of us can't adjust to orthotics, i've always wondered why.
i've had that metatarsal heads thing, or at least it sounds similar, just never knew that was what it was called. often wondered if when the top of my big toe(s) hurt if its the tendon on the top of the toe. what made it worse was stretching my toes inside my shoes against the resistance of the shoe, so i just try real hard not to do that. of course stretching isn't supposed to cause tendonitis, lol!

Yeah, I used to get that all the time and then once upon a time about 15 years ago I never had those pains again.
Probably just jinxed my heels with that admision.
I had a chiro back then who had one of those crazy foot virating machine but his was like Olympic strength and moving so fast I think it was on HGH. Dunno if it may help you or something along that line.

Hi Kevin My heels feel a little bit better. It doesn't help that I am working long hours either. My ankles and heels always hurt but it was getting to be over the top. I just need to give them a rest more often. Thanks Kevin.

Yes Mig gentle stretching has helped. I was hoping you would offer to come over and massage my feet . Seriously though I have been stretching in the morning and my pain is reduced thru out the day. Thanks Mig

Thanks Sue
I remember you mentioning the hot water/ cold water trick though I haven't tried it...kinda hard when I am on the road all day. I have left the inserts in my shoes and will probably just leave them in there. I am not a big fan of the gel inserts, all that does is make me feel off balance (in the physical sense). I think rest is probably the best thing or a foot soak this weekend might help.

Hi there!! Voltaren has been helping. I have been using it every night after a hot shower. Like you said, don't over do it. I hope to catch up on "foot rest" this weekend. Thanks for your help!!
