You MUST be from AZ if you you're thinking cold and overcast is NICE!!! Just two states north of you and I'm jones-ing to see my tulips begin to emerge.

Too funny about the store being so close. So did they accept your debit card there? Do the ATM's spit out the local currency? Once I bought something on the tiny island of Roatan and figured it would cost me about $12 or so. After the currency exchange it came back on my bank statement for 17 cents. Now that's a bargain!!

Glad you are enjoying yourself! That should aid in healing.

Yea I took out 400 hundred Czech dollars which is about 20 American.
And yes I have really enjoyed my walks. It's overcast misty and cold. What perfect weather. grin

I had the pearl bath today and it was some sort of herbal whirlpool for 10 minutes. They increased the radon time to 20 minutes from 15.
Looking forward to that carbon dioxide treatment and that boost in testosterone. Those 60 year old german ladies will start looking better and better.

The food, macrobiotic food, gluten-free food, anti-sclerotic diet, gall blader diet. [/b]

Gaseous dry carbonic bath (CO2)
It is applied to the whole body or just partially (to extremities). The patient´s body (or only extremities) is closed into a special plastic bag, which is then filled with ca. 125 l of carbon dioxide, of which about 2 l are absorbed through the skin surface. The medium used is 95-100% - carbon dioxide. The warmth gathered in the closed space of the plastic bag results in the constant moistening of carbon dioxide.
Effects:increased hyperemia of the body organs, brain and muscle tissue, caused by blood vessels extension (including capillaries). This can have a positive influence on flow properties of blood, improves coronary hyperemia of myocard and related improvement of heart activity. It can also lower the blood pressure and improve hyperemia of extremities and cause decrease in edema.
Other effects: increased elasticity of erythrocytes, increased production of cell glycogen, positive influence on cirsoid complications, positive influence on the skin in cellulite, hyperpigmentation, in creation of old-age naevi, improved healing of defects, decubitus, burns, scar softening and improved healing of the skin
This procedure needs comfort and it can be accompanied by relaxation music.
Indication:
This procedure is suitable for all groups of patients, especially for those with heart and blood-vessel diseases, with vascular diseases of the brain, for those suffering from hypertensia, varicose veins, vascular complications of diabetes, osteoporosis, those with spinal diseases, but also for patients with after-surgery, after-injury or rheumatic diseases of the locomotary apparatus. The gas stimulates the production of testosterone and estradiol, that is why it is sometimes used for improving sexual functions in men and for reducing climacteric problems in women.
Duration: 40 minutes

OK - so in this case, you get cooked, by the sound of things - but it will be good for your "vigour" in case you meet any *strange women* that you fancy!

I also read about the "underwater massage" - sounds as if that's when the local physio gets to perve on the "sexy man"! clap

If it all gets out of hand, you can always have one of the Scotch douches! ouch! eek

You can also be irradiated and all sorts of rather dangerous sounding "treatments"...

Have fun Ari - and we expect a daily diary from that super fast Wifi in the foyer!

Wow even I wasn't aware of that . Thanks for the info. Would be great if this turns out like I hope that some of you other kick as members could meet here in the following winter. This place could use an infusion of other then German peoples. grin

It really is a first class place and believe it or not I am not losing money coming here. Everything is included in the price and with the way I spend money in the USA I would say I'm about even. Plus got word from work that they are going to give me short term disability while I'm here. So I get work to pay 66 percent of my salary and I only have to use 34 percent of my vacation hours. Very happy about that.

Louise, I'm so glad you are joining in on my giggle-fest at Ari's expense! Nothing brings out the nervous giggles better than talking about nakedness, sex and large strange German women!!

So I put your sentence into Google translator and it came up with:

"physical structure is best of show".......what the heck??? lol!

Ari:That is fab that you get STD while you're there!!! (STD=short term disability, not to be confused with our other conversation mind you) To only use 34% of your vacation days and get some compensation, you must be living right! Karma is smiling on you! wink Not to mention, you've been safely out of AZ during the terrible shooting tragedy. We had to call my father in law to make sure they were okay. They winter in Casa Grande.

So just what can you buy for 400 czech dollars??

And let us know what "this procedure needs comfort" in the CO2 treatment, like is it uncomfortable so soft music will help, or its boring, or claustrophobic....(eeeeeeeeeeeek)....

eek2

Thanks for keeping us posted! Enjoy your R&R to the fullest! Today is warmer in Idaho, yay!!! I went out and shoveled the slush so my jewelry customer doesn't drown walking up my driveway. Slush is a good thing! Its a balmy 37 degrees today. Last week we had a high of 4 degrees. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. snowflake1

Well, that's a very literal translation, but you should have understood the general meaning: it means "best physique on display" aka "Pin-up boy of the week"!!! laugh2

Donette: It's great to hear that you're back on the beady path again, too!!!

Ari - if you need any German pick-up lines to use on those saggy 60 yo's, just holler! kiss

Addit: What a shame you're not at this place on the northern coast of Poland :

http://www.sunflowers-agency.com/poland/kolobrzeg/hotel-ikar-plaza.php

- they have *this* treatment:

Chocolate wrap
The basis of chocolate wrap is unsweeten cacao powder obtained from cacao-tree, which grows in tropical forests and light dry milk.
Cacao powder is rich on natural substances, which support and rejuvenate the skin. It has hydration effect, it helps to precede wrinkles and reduce sharpness.
Besides the natural substances, it contains also vitamins, amino acids, minerals, coenzymes, nucleus acids and antioxidants. The dermatologists accentuate first of all the beneficial effects of vitamins A and E, which are absorbed with the whole body during wrap.
The smell of chocolate in addition effects against depression and invokes good mood.

I assume you get one of of those brusque 60 yo Polish ladies to lick it off! eek2

Or this one: (in case you need added appeal for said Polish matron...)

Cleopatra baths
Real milk in the form of silky foam transports you into a world of feelings, pampering your skin with exceptional gentleness. The bath turns into a snow-white lake, filling your senses with peace and contentment. Your beauty is surrounded by a pleasant fine aroma of cinnamon.
The caress of milk protein and marine collagen fills your skin with moisture and nourishment. The harmony achieved between body, spirit, and soul in real milk foam explains the secret of Cleopatra's beauty.

]You women are too much. Thanks for the entertainment.

Discovered the hotels pools. Very cool. They don't use a lot of chlorine and the main pool while not real big is nice and warm. They have these calf high walking lanes with rocks on the bottom. One lane is 35 degrees celcius and the you turn into another lane that's 10 degrees celcius. 10 degrees celcius is about -20 F I believe so cold. I tried it a few times.
They have two saunas. I was sitting in the dry one and I noticed a small pool of water outside of the sauna. I figured it was one of those cols pools and sure enough it was. I got in up to my neck and got the he'll out. Very shocking but quite exhilarating. When I got back in the sauna a German guy started talking to me. He knew I couldn't speak German so he did a lot of gesturing that one must stay in the cold pool and Wade around. Sure enough macho man got up and went into the pool. Must have been his first time in that pool because he sounded like a dog getting electrocuted. One yelp and he was out.

I finally met this Russian girl who spoke quite good English in the lobby. She told me it was her first visit but she knew of the place because a family friend had been coming 7 straight years and her arthritis was greatly helped. Russia is only a 2 hour flight for her and she was paying a lot less for her stay then I was, not that I'm complaining because it's a great value in my opinion.
In the evening I went back into the pool areas and finished up with a sauna. In it was three Russian ladies. For whatever reason one of them got up and started doing some strange gyrations in the sauna. Some sort of Russian dance/ritual not sure. But it involved her waving her hands over each of us sending more hot air onto us. She thought it was real funny. I was amused cause she actually was decent looking.

I'm still struggling with the time zone change I was up again for the better part of the night. I'm into my second book and have watched the entire second season of curb your enthusiasm. You cannot bring enough books/ videos here.

Today is the last treatment day of the weak with tomorrow being a rest day. I'm tempted to go to Prague overnight but will mabe save that for another time.

Hi Ari,

Glad you're enjoying your stay - sorry about the lame entertainment this end! roll

I like the sound of that rock walk in the pool - maybe like reflexology through the feet? Either way - I love foot massages and walking on pebbles feels great, so I would be doing it too!

I hope you can fnd some more English speakers to help pass the time. I agree it would be fantastic to meet up with some fellow KAers for a spa stay some time...

I'm enjoyng reading about some of the treatments that the eastern European spa resorts offer as treatment. Whilst I have highlighted some of the more *unusual* ones, there are some others that are things that as a physio I have read about or even done back in the Dark Ages when I was a student, like the Galvanic currents in the water bath and the paraffin wax wraps. Most of the other electrotherapy treatments are still used by physios...

I see that the radon baths are quite short. What sort of time do you build up to by the end of your stay? Are you there for 12 days?

Is there anything to see / do in Jachymov itself, or nearby? Anywhere to take a long walk? I would be quite interested to go there myself one day... smile

I hope your body clock resets itself soon,

Louise

Not far from Prague - fantastic. Prague is very beautiful I am told with some great churches and old buildings to see - and good restaurants! Would LOVE to visit there. A long coach trip would be my idea of travelling (would prob have to start from the UK though).

Carrying books would be a bummer, so, e-books, no weight... Believe the e-book 'viewer' is quite expensive? Dunno. As for videos, DVDs, light and easy to carry. Then perhaps a CD player and a pile of fave CDs - or go into Prague to purchase new ones?

Like the sound of your health hidaway Craig - except for nakedness...can you wear a costume in the sauna? I love saunas, my absolute fave. As for the cold *dip after/between...in Finland we had a huge tub of freezing water inside the sauna with a drain channel running down the middle of the sauna room, so, one took jug fulls of this cooooooold water and threw over oneself. Terrific - other option was to go run outside and plunge into the nearby lake. Also birch twigs to gently thrash oneself with. rainbow

Think you can keep your Russian doing the sauna rain dance over one...thanks, no thanks! (Most embarrassing - especially if naked, all that bobbling around! devil2) <LOL> (Heigh, glad you don't mind our ribbing you! grin)

Do they have a bicycle hire place - thinking of Louise's question of gettng around - IF lovely walks, then perhaps happy cycle rides?

Yes, wouldn't it be a great place to meet up - an AS get together at Jachymov (strictly covered up of course... ooo )

Await further updates with interest - perhaps news of a 'date' with that 'healthy' Russian? laugh2 (ducking...)

I've been reading your updates, they are so much fun!

Those shallow pools with warm and cold water are meant for 'Kneipping' or also called hydrotherapy. If you put 'Sebastian Kneipp' into google, you should find info about a German priest, who found out that walking through water that changes in temperature has good effects on one's health. This kind of treatment is very popular in Austria and Germany.

And you should definitely go to Prague if you get the chance. It is really beautiful. If you want to stay overnight, you can check out a youth hostel, there are a lot of decent ones over there if you don't want to break the bank. Most of them have websites and the staff speaks good English.

Oh, and Molly, btw. over here we do things differently ;-), where as in the UK you are required to keep your costume on while in the sauna, here you are required to take it off... but you can always wrap up in a towel if you want...

Looking forward to the next updates, have a great stay
