Hi All,
I am back on the NSD and it is both exciting and frustrating. It's fun to cook in new and inventive ways and it's great to experience the pain levels go down. I bought the iodine and had fun testing everything in sight, but I am not sure if my test on Kraft Mayo is good or bad. Does anyone know of a NS mayo sold in Canada(western)? Thank you in advance.
Hugs Nette

You could always try to make some yourself and it should last a week in the fridge.

If you just buy plain mayo, there should be no starch. Mayo is made with eggs, oil, vinegar and/or lemon juice and a little paprika.

Hi, Nette:

Regret that Kraft mayo is not real mayo; it is important to always buy "REAL" mayonnaise like Best Foods (Hellman's) brand.

In fact Kraft adds starches to nearly everything they process, so that is one brand I have written off altogether; I can't tolerate their "cheese-like" goop, either. Too highly processed and I am sure if they found a cheap enough plastic they would add that to their food as filler! Worst brand ever.

Sorry. We should get a list going of brands that have 'gratuitous' adulteration with starches or other bad stuff and boycott these brands until they come around.

bon appetit,
John

Hi Nette! I'm in Western Canada too!

Kraft is starchy. I believe it is the Hellman's (like Kiwi said) one that I tested, and it was safe. That was years ago, so double check just to be sure.

Very true Dragon slayer! We need a list of safe brands! That is a great idea. I have been eating Kraft mayo because Best Foods mayo has MSG. I am highly allergic to MSG and that is one that is filled with it. Otherwise I would eat it because I think it tastes better.

I am so confused. I just went and checked my Kraft mayo with iodine and its not turning at all? Is that because of the oil or something? I have considered this a safe food for several years.
