If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I had a good break from my AS there for a few weeks. Probably since i totally cut out bread and started trying ACV and taking lots of pro-biotics. I was even able to sprint a bit, but I had a good amount of bread at the weekend and now im feeling sick, plus have severe pain in my upper back, ribs and neck/shoulders. Its strange because my SI joints are fine, and they normally cause all my pain.
Could I possibly have a Klebs infection in my lungs? or is this just a coincidence. My gut is feeling very dodgy too, so maybe my SIJs will flare in a few days.
Back on Salazopyrin after taking a break for 2 years. Might try going dairy free. Sugar & bread are the main killers for me!

And they say there is no proof that the NSD works!!! The proof is in the pudding...and the bread...and the pasta...and the pizza!!! That's the trap with feeling good - you forget what feeling bad can be like! I doubt that you have a K Pn chest infecton - just the Monster reminding you that there are nigh on 60 joints (and entheses!!!) in your thoracic area... so many to choose from apart from the SIJs - that routine was probably getting boring... Feel better soon,

I would definitely say that this is a sign the NSD works for you. It may also be a sign that your body can no longer tolerate wheat. It's the hardest grain for our bodies to digest, so reintroducing it in quantity after having been off it is bound to create gut issues. Since you're getting pain you haven't had in a while, I would also say that this is a sign that wheat is a trigger for you.
Wheat is definitely one of my triggers (but not non-gluten-bearing grains, and even spelt and kamut are OK for me in small amounts). It creates burning in my thoracic area within 24 hours and my gut definitely is affected by it.
Get strict again, take something for the inflammation because it must be dealt with, and it's possible that this will pass within the week or so, after all the wheat is expelled from your system. At least, if it hasn't created a full flare.
Hugs,
Kat

I had always wondered if wheat was the culprit or just plain old starch. I did notice I bad heartburn very shortly after eating the bread. I hadn't had heartburn since I gave bread up either, so I know bread causes a few of my problems! I had been eating small amounts of starches over the last while, just smallish amounts of potatoes and rice though. I swim a good bit, so maybe I burn up all those other starches before they cause problems.
As a teenager/young adult I nearly lived on a diet of pasta, bread and pizza with heartburn and sore back/legs all the time, so no wonder I got AS.
Since I put this post up earlier today, my eyes have started to burn a bit, but the tendinitis in my elbow is nearly gone. So maybe it will be full flare that will clear quickly. I'll definitely get strict again now, especially since I'm supposed to be giving up my Salazopyrin soon to help start a family!
Thanks for your tips and help. John

So the faster you get it out of your system, the better.
I have found that drinking 24 oz of water (room temp is best) over about 15 minutes initiates a bowel movement and that would be your best bet. Also a short fast (18 hours helps me) on water alone will help you get better faster.
Good luck!

Thanks Donette,
I tried your tips. I went for a swim just there too, but didnt do as much as normal. Swimming always seems to help me a good bit. I'll stick to the NSD till I improve, then i'll slowly go back to a bread free LSD.

John - as the NSD works so well for you and you are giving up SLZ to stat a family, have you considered taking LDN (low dose Naltrexone). It works so well for spinal inflammation and gut probs and if one is also on the NSD, then, really good results.
Good luck with starting a family -
Go well -

Thanks Molly,
I have read about LDN, but i haven't given it a try yet. I'll see how I get on when i'm off my SLZ. Im feeling great again a few days after giving up the bread and drinking lots of water and ACV. Ive noticed that Ive a awful lot more energy these days when I keep my inflammation down, which will be important when I have children to mind!
Take care, John

Hi John, Great to hear that you have settled down a bit... I don't think the sore back and legs whilst eating wheat *gave* you AS - it was a sign that you already had it and were feeding the monster! I think I recall discussions here before about men wanting to start a family - I believe you can go dafely onto Salofalk instead of Sulfasalazine... maybe want to google it or ask in the Men's Forum, or ask your rheumy??? Good luck with becoming a dad - my kids have brought me many joys!

Hi Inkyfingers,
Im visiting my rheumy next week. He just said that I could come off the salazopyrin when I wanted to start a family. I will inquire about the salofalk. I dont know what his plan is for me. I get very little time to talk to him during my twice yearly visits!
