My Mum picked up a pamphlet about this out of curiosity. Her mother (my grandmother) had this, and it does seems we are both bound for it. I've already had a couple of those really dizzy episodes....those can be pretty trippy!! But the hearing loss is certainly NOT.

The pamphlet is by the "American Academy of Otolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery" BUT, this description really stuck out for me in this pamphlet.....

"How is a diagnosis made?

...You may be asked whether there is history of syphilis, mumps, or other serious infections in the past, inflammations of the eye [Iritis?], an autoimmune disorder or ear surgery in the past."

I just find this interesting becuase it seems that everything is so connected. Also, my gradmother is the one that pased on the FABULOUS fused/ridiculously painful neck to myself besides having this disease.

I'm not saying it's further evidence of AS in myself, it's just when I read things like this it always makes me wonder.

Does anyone here also have Meniere's Disease with their AS?

Rox,

I had never heard of this before. I found this link to some information. I couldn't find anything related to AS. But like you said, with your grandmother also having the fused neck, it does make one wonder.

I hope you are doing well.

Take care,
Pam

Hey you guys!

WOW ~ That link specifically mentions AS under the 'What Causes' section... see 'immune disease' blue typed link!!!!!
My Mom and sister both have hearing loss! And my Mom has had vertigo a bunch of times! This was a very interesting find!

Thanks to you both!

Interesting! I'm glad to see it in print for the first time.... I have chronic dizziness, which was diagnosed as autoimmune inner ear disease, and the first symptoms started about the same time my AS symptoms started (about 20-25 years ago).

Four months of high-dose prednisone helped me with the oscillopsia...and made all the AS pain go away :-), at least temporarily :-(.

Hi Paul,... I was hoping you'd see this!

I thought of you as soon as I'd read the symptoms and noticed the AS reference,... thought it sounded very similar to what you've been going through. If you didn't show up, I was planning on sending you a quick PM mentioning this thread!

Hope all is well with you!

Yes, especially the "bilateral vestibular presentation" part. Since both AIED and AS are relatively rare, I can't help but wonder whether any similarity between this description and me might be due to my doc talking about my case with other docs :), which would make the whole thing kind of circular, and not especially informative...

Doing pretty well, but I've been substitute teaching in a school where all the teachers seem to have lousy chairs >:-|.

WE are eating too much salt. One visit to the local diner can cause me a dizzy spell.

Hi Rox...Yes I have this lovely thing too. Glad to know about the link between the two. Makes sense. I have the ringing in the ears, I hear my heartbeat sometimes and the dizziness (mostly lying down luckily but I can really whirl quite badly) Thanks for making these connections Mig.
