Oh I could write pages on my dog!! His names Aspen as some of you will know and he's a Golden Retriever, why he's a "retriever" though I'll never know....lol....throw him one of his toys he runs like crazy to find it, finds it, sniffs it and walks away with his nose in the air as if to say "get it yourself"...lol...

His cutest quirk is when he wants to lie on the couch beside me (never wants up beside Shug or kids). He comes over, stands beside the couch and rests his head on the couch...awwwww and looks at me with those big brown eyes as if to say "please mum"....how can I refuse, so of course up off the couch I get, moving the cushions as he doesn't much like lying with cushions...lol...then I squeeze my botty in the space he's left...lol...

His naughtiest quirk is a newly learned one!! We store out toilet tissue rolls in a basket in the bathroom...now Aspen loves to chew and rip the cardboard inner tube when the roll is done, but he's recently progressed to the whole roll when full!!! I went upstairs to find him one day and walked into our bedroom only to be met by a mound of white tissue.....9 rolls in all I'd counted....course it wasn't any old roll like supermarkets own, it had to be the expensive Charmin stuff......lol.... Of course he knows he did wrong, I didn't even have to say anything, but his ears go back and he sits there saying "I didn't mean to"....I find it so difficult to be cross with him...

Take care

Hey Timo!

I've got a 'quirkie' dog!.... his name is Eddie and he is a Yorkshire Terrier. What I should say is that he is 2lbs of ATTITUDE!! We should have named him Fang!!

Apart from all the obvious dog traits (he has to pee on every car tire he can come across) he also has an ear fetish. He just loves to stick that tiny tongue down your ear!

As a family... we are all quite used to this. He thinks we can't notice him sidle across the back of the sofa as he nears his goal....then Voila! there is a tongue down your ear! This, of course, only becomes a problem when company comes over.. I think we scare the company more when we shout "Eddie... get down!" but it is real embarassing when he attacks the poor unsuspecting company!

The other thing he does is a little like your cat in a way, except he hides socks! I used to think that I had a gremlin in the house, as I could never, ever, match socks together.... then we found his 'stash'! He has a spot under my bed where he will drag an assortment of socks and pile them neatly. It's kinda hard to get them out of there when I'm in a flare, plus he gets real mad when you try to reclaim them! Once you get 'em you have to keep hold of them or they are right back under!!!

Your cat sounds like a riot! Good job you can move the dishwasher!!

Maxine.

Hi, Timo. This is a great topic!

We have four pets: two cats and two conures (large parakeets). The cats are Dylan and Matt and the conures are Jasper and Comsai.

Matt is the quintessential cat, but he does love to eat bread and butter! Dylan will eat anything, including watermelon. One of his favorites "tricks" is to find those little wire ties that are used to tie up loaves of bread and put them in his water dish. The other is to come into the bedroom at 4:00 am and press the "speakerphone" button on our telephone! My wife took to putting a lampshade over the phone at night, and that fooled him for a few months, but he figured out this week just where the speakerphone button is hidden under the shade, and has woken us both up for the past two nights! I'd lock him out of the bedroom, but my wife won't hear of it.

As for my birds, Comsai is an annoying little feathered boltcutter, but Jasper loves to whistle and "kiss" me, and when she's out of her cage, she climbs into my shirt (or my wife's) and pops her head out above the top button.

Hey Timo, great topic!!

I have three little felines at my place. First there's Isis, a tabby/calico mix and the actual owner of my house. All of my cats have multiple names to which they respond, hers are: Precious, Precious Isis, Beautious Precious Isis, Beautiful Girl and Beautiful Kitten (even tho she's 12 years old now). We used to play hide and seek together. She would hide (always in the same spots), then I would search under and in things asking "where's my precious Isis? Is she in here? No. Is she in here? No. Is she in here? Theeeere she is!!" Then she'd get her ears scratched and come out of hiding. Isis also loves to sit in bathroom sinks. Doesn't even move if I turn the water on, just looks at the water as if it's an intruder. She loves to cuddle under the blankets when I go to bed on a cold night. We do this thing called 'cuddle & eat'. She eats and purrs while I scratch her ears and neck. She also likes to come into the bathroom while I'm showering. And also loves to curl up in drawers and empty boxes. This little mooch loves to eat popcorn, tomato sauce and (we found out last night) Soy Sauce!

Buddy is the 'unloved middle cat'. She's almost pure black (her eyes glow blue in the dark), with about 10 white hairs under her chin and is 2.5 years. Her names are: Buddy, Buddy Bub, Baba (Russian for grandmother), Baba Boo. She has a little stuffed monkey that she loves to carry around the house. I find it in the oddest places!! She's a bit more snippy than the others (hence the unloved middle cat status), but purrs if you look in her general direction. If I'm paying attention to one of the others (Isis in particular), she'll worm her way in between us so she can have the attention! Stephen says she looks just like a mongoose the way she does it, so her next nickname may become Mongoose, Goosey for short. She would like to snuggle under the covers on a cold day, but is a bit too nervous to actually settle. Instead, she purposely walks on Isis when she's under there. Chocolate Ice Cream is her fave, but I don't let her have it all that often as it's bad for her. She also likes the brown sugar milk left over after a bowl of cereal.

Then there's my little Lincoln (who is a girl, we just didn't know it when we named her). Lincoln is a silver tabby (pure bred I think) that I rescued off the street when she was just 10 weeks old (she'll be 2 in August). Her names are: Lincoln, Bink, Stinker, Stinky Linc and Linky Bink (Stephen's daughter calls her the Binkster). She's a pure terror at times. I've seen her get from my sofa to the kitchen almost without touching the floor. Gets into everything!! Drives me nuts sometimes because she's so tenacious. If anyone is going to be kicked off the bed it's her - over and over and over and over and over. She's my wee one and loves to curl up on 'Mum'. Tries to touch my face if I'm laughing or crying really hard (I guess they look the same to her?). Bink likes to sit in my lap while I'm on the toilet. Perfect match for Isis in the sink! She and Baba spend ages curled up together licking each other all over their heads. Then it devolves into a hissing, whacking, spitting, wrestling match until the two of them bound off of whatever chair they've been in and chase each other all over the house (herd of elephants anyone?), as Isis watches in bemusement at the children's antics. She used to eat brocolli (which I encouraged), and rice (which I also encouraged), but now she likes popcorn and anything else on her human's plate. Have to shove her off the table - over and over and over and over. Thankfully, she seems to be growing out of some of her more irritating (would be cute if it wasn't my cat) habits.

Anyway, that's my brood.

Hugs,

Kat

I have a pom. Her bigest fedish is when I bring in the morning newspaper she begs for the rubber band. When you give it to her she hold one end in her mouth, lays on her back and catches the other end with a paw and expands it until it comes off her tooth flying across the room. She has been shooting rubber bands since she was a pup. She is now 6 1/2 years old. She is very disapointed on days wihen it is wet outside and the newspaper comes in a plastic bag.
She loves carrots. She will do any tick you ask her to do for a carrot. Last year I planted carrots in the garden. She was with me when I dug them up last fall. For the next couple of week when every she went out she ran straight to the garden and started to dig looking for carrots.

Hi Timo,
Yes, this is a great topic. I am a big animal lover and so are my kids.
My daughter is going to college to become a vet. Something I thought about when I was younger, but decided to go into the training field instead.
Did obedience and guard dog training for years when I was younger and loved it.
I was in the process of training my older Black Lab Bogart in the therapy field, but then AS took over and now he is my personal assistant
He loves to touch things and when I ask him to do something he always has to touch whatever first. Like when I tell him to get a drink of water, he will go to his bowl and stick his paw in it before taking a drink.
Whenever you give him his leash, he'll run around in circles with it and buck like a bucking bronco. When he was little, he would literally hog tie himself with it. There he'd be on his back with his legs up in the air all tangled up.
Flyer my younger lab is much more independant and stubborn and he fits his name to a T. He could play fetch for hours and hours without getting sick of it.
Then I have two cats...Ellie Mae and Jethro who are twins. Elli Mae being the female is very independant and not as loving and cuddly as her brother Jethro, who loves to slinky down the stairs on his back.
I also have a cockatiel who whistles the Andy Griffith tune and has a foot fetish. Whenever he sees feet he starts doing a mating dance and sings. LOL
Last and not least I have a goldfish that I won at the fair. He is going on 7 years old the a pet store owner where I buy most the animals food basically called me a liar, saying they only a live a year at the most. He's wrong! Every morning when I feed him I say "wow I can't believe your still alive" His name was Goldy, but I changed it not too long ago to "Golden Oldy"
My animals are my life. They give me so much joy and keep me entertained.
My son asked me one day why our pets have such strange personalities and I told him, "because they were raised by us" laugh2]
There are pictures and discriptions of all my pets on my home page.
I am in the process of acquring a new pet and have a great story to tell about it, but I will wait until I get him first. Your all going to love it! I even have his name picked out already "Ditto"
Thanks for starting such a great and fun post. I can see we have a lot of pet lovers here. I've always felt that a person who loves animals can't be that bad of a person.
Hugs,
Lisa

I don't have a pet now, but I had a black and tan mini dachshund for 10 years, named Bogart. One thing he did that I thought was cute was that, when he was riding in the car, he'd lie on the passenger seat until I turned on the turn signal. Then he'd jump up and look out the window to see where we were going. Another really quirky thing he did was that--not once, but TWICE--he got ahold of my knee-high nylon stockings and swallowed them! They came back up a few days later...

I just have to attach this cute picture that someone sent me, since I'm on the subject of weiner dogs

Hey Timo,... what a great thread!

The quirky antics of my sheltie x eskimo named 'The Beardog' make for a long list.

The funniest is that he's really afraid of his own farts. The first time I ever witnessed this, I nearly broke a rib laughing so hard. When he farts ~ he leaps & twists around in the air ~ then dashes off upstairs to hide. He's paranoid that something is trying to bite him on the bum, and there is just no consoling him. It makes me laugh every single time.

He is also very afraid of bumblebees, and will run away from any zizzzzing noise heading his way. Like Cheryl's pooch, he sometimes tip-toes around the yard as if he's afraid of the grass underfoot! Ooooo scary! lol

If you tell The Beardog to stop barking,.. sometimes he'll turn and face away in the opposite direction in what appears to be an attempt to disguise the origin of the noise, peeking back over his shoulder occasionally to see if it's working! Who me? Oh-no-no-no that wasn't ME!

Cheers!

Great Post Timo!!

Like Strutsy we have a minature schnauzer, Niki, short for Nikita. She to like to give hugs, and will sleep on my shoulder while I work at the computer. Carol, my wife, has a room decorated with bears. When Niki is mad at us, she goes in and drags all of the stuffed bears she can get to into the living room. She doesn't tear them up, just drags them out in the middle of the floor.
Her other little quirk is that she loves habenero peppers. I guess she takes after me and the great BBJ. I found this out when I noticed half eaten peppers on the patio. I was sitting in the kitchen one morning and watched her in the yard, as she buried her head into one of my habenero plants and began eating them, seeds and all. So with a little experimentation, we have found she has quite a taste for spicy things... Pet's ya gotta love 'em!
