Hi to all!

I just wanted to ask you guys if you ever get just a weird feeling in your muscles. I can't really descripe it, I think it's the AS just letting me know it is there. I seem to feel it in muscles first before anything starts to ache, and then within a day or so there is pain in that area. For example, I told my Rheumatologist that I felt it in my face. She asked if I meant my jaw. At that point my answer was no, but that was then. Since then I still feel that weird sensation, but the pain has been added. Anyone had any similar experiences, or am I going crazy with this thing!

Thanks,

Trinka

Well, Trinka, I can't say as I've experienced anything quite like that, but I rather doubt you're going crazy. We all know our own bodies and their reactions, and we all react slightly differently. This is just your body's way of preparing you for a flare, I'd hazard. Perhaps it's like advance notice so that you can take steps to mitigate it.

But really, you're not going crazy.

Really.

I swear.

Honest.

Hugs,

Kat

Hmmmm. like the joint feels like its turning to rubber? Or like you got a shot in your arm when you didn't? Just last night, I had this spreading thick feeling across my rib cage. It wasn't my heart, I'm pretty sure about that, but it just came and went. I've had that same feeling before, but else where. Transisionary effects perhaps?

Back in the early days of coping - - back then undiagnosed - - with what was happening to my body, a real scary thing used to happen, my right leg used to throb, and my shin ached from the inside out, feeling like a toothache, and then shortly after these symptoms, maybe a day or two, my back would start hurting and the leg pain would disappear. Referred pain maybe? My lumbar spine is not in good shape and my SIs are fused, maybe back then there was some nerve involvement even early on. I later ruptured the L-5 and lost the use of my right leg for a time, it hurt really bad in my leg (not my back) but I couldn't put any weight on it, the phantom limb. Even today the soles of my feet are numb, as is my right thigh, and my toes get real tingly all the time. So maybe what you're experiencing is a referred pain of sorts.

Hi rranta,

Thanks for describing it so well! That's exactly what it feels like! I've also had it in my legs! Too weird of a feeling! I guess AS trys to do what it wants to! I've sat back at times and thought," I hope this doesn't mean everything is gonna fuse". I guess I still have a tendency to get a little panicky! I feel better just knowing someone else has had the same experience.

Thanks again!

Trinka

Hi Kat,

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I appreciate it!

As far as the weird feeling goes, I guess everyone reacts differently and describes things differently too! That's what makes Kickas such a great place!

Have a nice weekend!

Trinka

HI Cheryl,

Thanks for your input! It sounds like you had a really tough time. I have often thought that maybe nerves had something to do with it. Excuse my naivete, but what is reffered pain?

Thanks,

Trinka

Trinka,

I often get what I describe as a "resonating ache" in the muscle/bone between two commonly affected joints, even when the joint isn't actually bothering me. When I asked my rheumy, he said it is "referred pain", ie. pain that starts elsewhere but becomes diffused and travels from the source, to other nearby body parts. It is a weird feeling because I wouldn't describe it as pain but not an absence of pain either....weird!!

Hey Trinka,

I believe I know what feeling your talking about....the feeling its kinda tingly and it burns and its in your muscles and then it aches and the next day you hurt really bad in that area. I just take pain medicen for it and hope it doesnt show up the next day!!

Good luck...best of wishes...LoVE,
KoRyE

Isn't it weird what our bodies will do? And yes, you must be crazy. That's what 95% of doctors think anyway... Just kidding. I agree it could be the referred pain others mention. It also kind of sounds like how my muscles feel before I go into a nice "fibromyalgia flare-up." I feel something in my muscles... it's hard to describe, but it's not quite "pain." If it continues to be bothersome you might try taking it up again with the rheumy.
