HI there, I have a 2 part question.

1. Do any of you guys use pee bottles when you go to bed? I have been doing for a few years now, just wanted to see how common/uncommon this is. Hopefully somewhat common, haha.

2. More importantly what do the girls do if they need a pee bottle? My mom is feeling rather unwell she has to get up and pee all night long. She is fighting off a nasty cold/flu and it hurts me to hear that she finds it difficult to pee in the middle of the night (from all the water and juice she is drinking to fight the cold or flu), i wont go into all of her other health problems here. I was just wondering if there was any advice or apparatus i could recommend for her. When I am able to pee in a bottle i have such a better sleep, and therfore have a better next day.

Hi Jake

You can go to any Drug store and get your mother a urnal for women. They are not that much money. As for part 1 of your question no, no bottle for me

She may be drinking a fair bit more liquids at bedtime than she really needs. Perhaps she could cut back her intake and see how that goes.

In some care homes, they do use adult diapers for some of the people who have difficulties in getting up to the bathroom. They are made to be just like underwear and I'm sure it would be relatively easy to get up and make a diaper switch during the night if it is needed.

Hi,

I was just wondering if maybe you should go out and buy/hire one of those chairs that has the bowl in it so that all she needs to do is sit up in bed and move her weight into the chair. It still gives her the cleaner feeling than wearing something to bed and helps so that she does not need to walk all the way to the toilet.

Possibly also I know as women do get older and have had a few pregnancies the bladder gets weaker and you need to do little pelvic floor exercises to strenghten it. Some women feel the need for frequent trips when this muscle gets slack and stops doing it's job. It may help assist her in the long run if she starts pelvis floor exercises.

Hope this helps!
Sal

My MIL used a bedside commode for years. She was an amputee and W/C bound, and it was too much to transfer to W/C, then roll herself to the bathroom, etc, etc, every night just to tinkle. She had 10 children, and probably no amount of exercises would have restored her dropped bladder. This allowed her to be more independent and she used it for the rest of her life.
