Here in Canada they now make it legal for people with terminal illness's and also chronic painful illness to smoke pot if you have a offical form filled out by your Doc. AS is one of the illnesses allowed. Early in the new year the Goverment will sell to people with legal papers weed for own consumption.
Here is my Question being an oldtimer from the hippie days i have smoked weed, but i find it does wonders for my brain but the pain is intensified, has anyone else found it helps or hinders pain. You can Private Mail me if you don't want to answer in public.
So maybe this isn't a question , maybe its a poll. HMmm

Hi,

I find that pot is great for stress and muscle spasms which are two of the big three problems...the other is inflammation...unfortunately pot does nothing for the latter. 2 out of 3 ain't bad:)

Thanks for the response on smoking weed, i started to think maybe people thought i was a Narc or something as i'm pretty new here.
Thats what i found felt great in the head , but the pain in my spine really increases , well there is trade offs i guess, relieve the stress put up with the extra pain for a few hours. I am considering asking my Rheumy when i see him in Oct. to sign the medical forms for permission to smoke pot. Boy if my Hippie friends could see that, talk about envy eh.

I'm in Canada too and a friend of mine told me about the compassion club. There you can get cheap pot or cookies or brownies etc. I can't smoke it because it makes me ill. I've also heard of the morphine patch and also methadone. My friend says the methadone works great!!! My Dr. is scared of addiction so I suffer with pain alot!!!! Anyways, take care.

ANGELDUST THANKS FOR THE INFO. HOPE YOU FIND AND ANSWER TO YOUR PAIN. IT IS CRAZY FOR THE DOC TO WORRY ABOUT ADDICTION. I HAVE BEEN ON THE SAME AMOUNT OF PERCACET FOR 13 YEARS NOW, WITHOUT IT I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ENJOY MY FAMILY. IT ATLEAST TAKES THE EDGE OFF SO YOU DONT FEEL LIKE YOUR GOING NUTS< AND WHEN YOU HAVE A SUPER FLARE THE MEDS DO NOTHING ATLEAST IT FEELS THAT WAY.MY RHEUMY DIDNT GIVE ME THE STRONGER MEDS IT WAS MY GP AFTER ALL YOUR GP SEES YOU MORE THAN THE RHEUMY. YOU ARE ENTITLED AS A HUMAN BEING TO GOOD PAIN CONTROL WITH ALL THE PAIN YOU HAVE NOW DO YOU REALLY CARE IF DOWN THE ROAD IT TAKES AWHILE TO GET YOU OFF THE MEDS> THINK ABOUT IT.
ITS TIME THE MEDICAL PROFESSION WISED UP.

RICK

This is tough to post on... being new here and getting the nerve up and all... but, here goes.
There are two different strains of marijuana, Sativa & Indica, and depending which you try determines how you end up feeling. I can't remember which is which (body 'stone' vs. 'head' stone) but I can tell you how it's helped me.
A friend, who was feeling so bad watching me cripple around in pain with a cane, gave me some marijuana to try, which strain I do not know.
The pain relief was there within minutes! I have slept through the night after smoking some... IN MY BED... NOT MY RECLINER! ... and really slept! I have also been able, during a flare up, to do some normal household activities that I would not have normally been able to do, due to the pain.
I now have to get the nerve up to ask my doctor to fill out the forms for Health Canada!

Dani,

I am glad you have found something that works for you. Hope your doctor agrees.

You had courage opening this up my friend. I've found that none of the mentioned helps me at all. However, to change the thread a touch, I do notice that alcohol relieves the pain and symptoms considerably. I don't mean getting smashed and unconscious or anything like that, but after a few drinks(anything alcoholic) the easing of my many pains is very noticeable. Of course, using alcohol as a medicine is playing with fire but I just thought I'd put this up here to see if there's any similar response from anyone else. Tim.

I have been smoking a bit of the green stuff myself. I have noticed that not only does the pain go away, I sleep better at night, and I can laugh without feeling like my ribs are going to fracture.

I have talke to my doctor about getting the legal papers, or "tokers licence" as we call it here in Canada. And plan to talk to her abou it again in the near future.

I have found that it works better than demorol and the diclofinac I have been using. Not only does it MAKE me eat, I have a rather unusual amout of energy a few minutes after smoking some. This has by far been the one reason I am able to keep my apartment in resonable condition as far as vacuming, dishes, and lanudry go.

and dont get me started on the social aspects of smoking pot.

Now...I'm not saying its for everyone, and I'm not saying it isn't. But if it works for anyone else the way it works for me, all the more power to ya.
