Tim,

I find after a few beers the pain eases a bit but often during that night or the next day my joints ache a lot. (And if I have more that a few and start doing stupid things like dancing my whole body aches for about three or four days.) Do you ever get worse pain after drinking?

Take care and keep smiling,
Rose

I've found that alcohol is effective when its consumed according to the Gout protocol - that is that beer and wine increase the inflammation and pain due to them being fermented but spirits are tolerated fairly well - especially white spirits like Barcardi, Vodka and especially Gin. I have found that I also feel BETTER the next day (unless of course I've "had a skin full". It should not be drunk with coke because its too acidic but preferably neat or with ice or mineral or soda water.

At the risk of indicting myself, I admit that I've toked over the years, and I think I know the difference between Sativa and Indica....unless that brain cell died at a Doobie Brothers concert, I think that Sativa is the male plant, with the long leaves that you see in drawings representing "Pot"....you know, like in Cheech and Chong movies from the 70's, and Indica is the female plant that has not been allowed to 'breed' so to speak, so the plant keeps churning out skunky, sticky, sweet buds, loaded with THC, the ingredient that gets you stoned.
Sativa is the 'body buzz', and makes you want to crash out after consuming everything in the fridge.....Indica is the 'head buzz' that just hammers you but does not make you pass out as it's wearing off...unless it's 4am and you're also drunk...
At least this is my experience....Indica really came into being in the late '70's early '80's and has become a 'designer drug', with many different 'brands' developed, and it is what people want to produce when they 'grow their own'...
Before Indica, the Sativa from Mexico and South America was what was smoked....some good, some bad, some relatively paralyzing, but the 'War On Drugs' sprayed paraquat, a defoliant, on crops, and partially as a result, people developed the Indica and the average grower became a business unto himself, growing outdoors, in labs, and in closets across the country....Humbolt County California became the buzz word in the early '80's for awesome Indica, followed by Vermont, Georgia, and Florida....in no particular order...heck, even Ohio....now you probably can find Indica grown in every state....
Now, the interesting thing, and why I'm delving into what I know from history, is: Is there a difference in pain/inflamation effects between Sativa and Indica? I think that probably the pot that cancer patients and ASers get is Indica....just a hunch, as I don't think anyone buys Sativa anymore....and, does it help more to smoke it, or to eat it, as some people do???
Questions the medical establishment will probably not answer any time soon....
I have found some beneficial effects from smoking Indica, but I don't do it enough to really scientifically determine if it helps, and besides, I'm usually drunk when it's offered to me...
Alcohol generally helps me mellow out and relaxes the muscles after a long long day...but I can overdo it and when you wake up hung over AND stiff it's no fun...
Well, I've admitted some stuff, but then I'll never run for office.....

Peace
Linc

Hi Linc and company,

Be careful with pot and alcohol... I read a Reader's Digest article a couple years ago that explained that the pot of today is chemically different from the pot of yester-year. It somehow turns off the indicator in the brain that tells your body to vomit when you've consumed a dangerous amount of alcohol. Kids are dying from alcohol toxicity because they don't throw up when they need to due to this new form of pot.

Just a kindly warning ,

Sharon

Hi Sharon-
Wow, that's some serious stuff, if true...the pot of today, primarily Indica, is very different from the "Acapulco Gold" or other Mexican varieties that saturated America in the '70's....much higer potency as far as THC is concerned, and most likely a different concentration of other chemicals that get sucked into your lungs...

I know that the designer pot of the last 20 years can pack a whallop, causing paralysis in some cases (think group of guys sitting in front of TV not talking or changing channels for 4 hours), but denying the vomiting reflex after drinking buckets of beer or vodka martinis sounds scary....

although when I've needed to expel, I expelled....but I can see how the uninitiated could fall prey, especially at college where they could be hazed into drinking ungodly amounts of alcohol to begin with...

Will check it out, thanks for the info!

Peace
Linc

Being from the hipple era. I used to smoke pot....i mean alot of pot. And yes, it would intensify the pain. or was it paranoia. I don't know. But I would not use it for AS. I believe it would intensify my pain. But it may work for others. My pot day are over.

Or maybe pot is what cause us to get AS. Some one should do a survey to find out how many people with AS smoked pot. Or the father or mother of people that have AS now.

I find that drinking alcohol is the worse thing to do for me. I find that AS and the stomach are totally linked, and now I can't really indulge in alchol at all like I used too. This is a shame, I used to love my drinks! But, on the topic that no one likes to touch, I do find that marijuana helps. After trying it, I was able to clean my bathroom, which was a triumph in itself! I also slept much better, and my mood improved. But, like many, how do you get the courage to ask your doctor? Especially with my case, I am young, and I do not want to come across as someone "faking it" for the wrong reasons. I would never dream of that, but I am sure that doctors have to be on the lookout for that. Personally, I think you would be pretty desperate to fake AS symptoms to get pot!

Ok, Since someone else started this line of questioning, Someone who isn't me (SWIM) has noticed that the better the "bud" the better the pain relief, ie. THC content is high, good results, low thc, bad results. Ok SWIM wants to know since Hash is THC taken from the green, should it help more, or is there a difference in actual THC quality. umm, if I am not making any since I can confer with SWIM.... but someone who isn't them might have the answer....damn...now I'm confused...lol..
