If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Here is a link to some encouraging news for diet-followers.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query...7&dopt=Abstract
When will there be a large-scale research project devoted to diet as a treatment for AS? I'm glad that I didn't wait for the AMA green light before starting my new diet. Although, as the evidence mounts, I imagine the establishment will have to concede to the benefits of diet. Much as the American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) was finally forced to change its policy regarding breastfeeding in 1997, long after it became conventional wisdom that breastfeeding is preferable.

Hey, zdog:
This is one of the frustrating things about diet, and I was confused enough to remain a vegetarian for 22 years. I, also had great results going vegan, at first, but now I know the reasons: It was the combination (as in Jackie Le Tissier's Food Combining for Vegetarians) that did me in before--starch plus protein, and the arachidonic acid from the red meat.
So, I do know that a vegan regimen can SEEM to help (well, ACTUALLY provide real relief to a limited extent), but it is EXACTLY THE WRONG diet, long term. Inflammation is complex, and taking it down is fraught with complex issues, also. Now, I wish that I had not been a vegetarian; certainly, I would have much less damage.
Yes, there IS a dietary connection, but reducing arachidonic acid consumption is only a small part of the equation, similar to reducing cholesterol intake when only 15% of our serum cholesterols are from diet--the majority of it is made by our livers (probably in response to eating grain).
Thanks for posting this link, John

Good points about how vegan diet is probably not a good response to AS. I was just excited to see any current research at all relating diet to AS. I am starting to feel, as you very decidedly do, that the low-starch diet, with particular nuances, such as probiotics, antiobiotics depending on the person, etc. is a preferred treatment for most/many AS sufferers. What I don't understand, is why are doctors dabbling with oddities like the vegan diet, on a micro-scale, while little to nothing is being devoted to study of NSD/LSD on a macro-scale. Why is it not standard practice? Why is the option not even presented to the great majority by their doctors. I am trying to reconcile my new faith in this diet with the ignorance of doctors and the lack of research.
You can find the darndest things on the net.

Hi Zdog,
The problem is the profit motive is extremely strong in corporate America.... what pharm company profits from me not eating starch? None... so they will not advertise/support the fact and that is a big driver in getting the message out. No doctor that has dealth with me has an excuse for not passing on the NSD since I have brought it up to them and how well it works... but I doubt that they do.
I am currently reading Kevin Trudeau's book "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You To Know About". I think he is a bit paranoid and there is some misinformation, but brings up some good points that I agree with here and there. Interesting reading to say the least.

If we could find 10 bonafide doctors with irritable bowel or Crone's disease, and several of them showing spondy symptoms they are attributing to "fibro-imagination," lock them in a kitchen for a month with no steroids and a cupboard full of the stuff we eat, and access to this websight, we might be able to convert about 5 of them....

But do note the authors do not say this is a case of AS; it could be a different type of spondylitis and this was an experiment with one person. And a vegetarian diet has been found helpful for RA, so be careful of jumping to conclusions. Of course we would want doctors to dry dietary approaches with all such patients but again they only tried this after trying drugs. And another problem is the cooperation of the patients, half of them just wouldn't want to try changing their eating habits. So drugs can look the easier option.
'Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on. 'I do,' Alice hastily replied; 'at least - at least I mean what I say - that's the same thing , you know.' 'Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter.
