OK, I know that you have all heard me rave about how I feel so much better with the Enbrel. My back, hips and chest hardly ever give me any grief anymore. However, recently my feet, ankles, hands and wrists have all been very sore. I can tell that it is AS related, because the pain is the same, just in different spots. Has anybody else had this happen to them. It's almost like the AS is telling me "ah ha, you stopped me from hurting you in the normal spots so now I'm going to attack new spots". Anyway, I'm just curious if anybody else has had this happen or if any of you have suggestions. Thanks much!!!

Sorry you feel so bad! I totally know how you're feeling, as I do occasionally get pain in my wrists and knees. These were actually my first symptoms of AS and why I went to my rheumy. Since I started on Enbrel, I haven't had the difficulty I had then, but it does pop up from time to time. It does seem like our AS is just trying to spite us, eh?

If your experience is going to be anything like mine, the pain will go away. I just pop an ultracet and I'm fine.

Sounds like AS to me. It's what I call my "joint of the month club" You never know when, where, or how long.

I had that happen when I was put on Diclofenac in the exact same spots. The doctor put me on sulfasalazine to control that. It worked but I'm not too crazy about controling side effects caused by medications with other medications. And then even though the doctor took me off Diclofenac I had to remain on sulfasalazine because he felt like I had peripheral arthritis. He didn't believe it was from the Diclofenac. It would be different if I were on biologics though, especially if everything was good otherwise. Has your energy level improved? You have probably mentioned it in previous posts but I've been kind of "away" for a while.

This sounds similar to how I reacted to Remicade. Everywhere that didn't hurt does know but what did is gone. My pain in my feet and knees are much milder then the pain I had in my whole torso. I can't imagine how my feet would feel if I wasn't on Remicade.

No, My energy levels have not improved. That is the one hold over that has not improved (even with working out and taking vitamins). If you ever find the secret for energy, please pass it on!!

after some 40 odd years as n AS seffer I have now got kidney failure to contend with,due to the anti-inflammatry
tablets taken AS is a [**BLEEP**] all the time you never what is comming next.

I had this happen to me. As my back started feeling better on enbrel, my knees started giving me problems. Don't know if it actually had anything to do with the enbrel or just AS. I could barely walk for about 2 months, now my knees are good as long as I don't try jogging. Swimming may be good exercise for those joints.

Sorry to hear that Phillip, esp. when the Enbrel was working so well. I've never had quire the response to a drug that you are asking about, but I do know all too well about the ankle, foot, and wrist pain. Well before I was on Enbrel, my AS followed the progression you discuss in your post--moving from the back and hips to the smaller, peripheral joints. Only my fingers truly remain unaffected now, which is very good since I'm an editor. In my opinion, I doubt the Enbrel is to blame for any new pain--it just sounds like AS being AS to me. I don't know if that answer is better than one saying that the Enbrel was the culprit--only you can decide that!
