I can't answer your question, just wanted to say good luck with the surgery. When are you having it?

My daughter has thought about having one of the surgeries, but I'm not sure which one. She can't afford to do it right now, but her Dr. thinks she should. How did you decide which was the right surgery for you?

Hi Tina,

My cousin was supposed to have this type of surgery done last May but it got put off. She never said why but her doctors have been pushing for her to get it. I know by losing weight it helps take some of the pressure off your back and inturn lessens the pain. I'm have been trying to get her to get a referral to a pain clinic also but she is determined in not going. I think most of it is fear of the unknown.

Hope your surgery goes well and keep us updated on your progress. I will relay the info to her and maybe she will reschedule hers.

Brent

Best wishes. I will be thinking about you. I know several people (not AS patients) who have had it done and are thrilled that they did.

Blessings.

Hi, tina:

I don't know about the lapband, balloons, or pouches, but these sound like much safer alternatives for everyone, but especially for those with AS, compared with the cutting involved in gastric bypass, which can make AS much worse and even cause it in susceptible individuals.

Good luck with the procedure and new You to follow,
John

I did quite a bit or research and also i know several people that have had it done and they hardly had any down time. Also the gastric bypass takes alot of cutting and leaves a scar almost like having heart surgery. Tell your daughter that now all insurances will cover these surgerys, you just have to meet certain criteria such as- a body mass index of 38 or higher, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, acid reflux etc....Tell her to check into this with her insurance.
