If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Karen,
If you are able to see Dr. Kahn you probably will not want to mention diet if you continue with it as he is one of the strongest advocates against diet.
Unless of course you want to state diet did not work for you... then you probably will make a new friend.

Thanks for the heads up, Tim.
I'm curious where or how you heard he is opposed to the diet. I read his book on AS, written in 2002. It says that Ebringer's work on the diet has not been corroborated and he doesn't recommend the diet.
I'd still like to see Khan and just keep my mouth closed about the NSD, at least at first.

I just don't get why anyone would be opposed to a diet, especially one that is NOT unhealthy if done correctly. I just don't understand. I mean, it's not like it's hurting anyone. Or...is it? Is he part of "Big Wheat?"

Hi Karen,
Just from reading posts from here at Kickas. John is given some of the feedback and if I recall correctly Dr. Kahn deliberately ate a very starchy meal in the company of Ebringer on one occasion.
I just thought I would give you the heads up in case you are able to get appointment. Did not want you to have a real eye opening experience if you mentioned you were doing diet.

Molly, it's not that he's against a diet, perse. More, he doesn't believe Dr. Enbringer's work as he feels (as I understand it anyway) that it has not been substantiated by independent research/clinical studies.
Hugs,

Hi Inanna - that's funny because when I showed my first rheumy Dr. Ebringers findings from kickas.org's website and she saw that it was a clinic in London she dismissed him as irrelevant. Oh it was only a clinical study she said and invalidated him. It's amazing how there are discriminations everywhere. I've seen it in every job situation I've been in and come across. It seems human nature to try to "one up" or make a pecking order. He could end up proving it with clinical studies (I thought he did that in his London clinic?) and people would still dismiss it for some arbitrary reason. Doesn't even have to be a good one - human nature.
So my point is that who knows what this doctor will do once it has been clinically proven to be effective. He just might keep on keeping on with what he's done all along...it's working for him.
Another thought - I don't know this doctor or have an opinion on him but I feel that any doctor should know the dietary habits of a patient along with what other medications and supplements that person is taking. What if a person were vegan and didn't tell the doctor and the rare disease they couldn't find was related to not getting enough protein from red meat or the like. If I felt I had to hide any information of myself to smooth a doctor’s feathers, I wouldn't take him no matter what type of big wig he was. What's next...it's like the government papers they show on TV that are classified and all the important information has been blacked out. Should we get copies of our medical records and have the doctors secretaries black out the offending information before the doctor sees it? How can a doctor help the patient without knowing their history - it's not magic or maybe it is without all the pieces of the puzzle - an illusion.

I know what you mean. Honestly, it's all so subjective sometimes. I agree about doctors needing to know our diets. It is very important. People often discount the importance of what we intake to our well-being. To me it's a no-brainer. If you're eating crap, you'll feel like crap. Hugs,
Kat
