Can anyone out there recommend a comfortable pair of shoes? I have to walk around a bit for my work and it doesnt take long for my feet to start hurting. Right now I just wear basic sneakers. Different shoes probably wont help but it wouldnt hurt to try!

Finding a pair of shoes which is comfortable is a very individual thing. Here are a couple of things which work for me:

Crocs are great because they don't put pressure anywhere on your feet.

I recently got custm orthotics from a podiatrist and they have made a world of difference for me. I can put them in almost any shoe I want to wear.

Good luck finding something comfortable!

and i'm still in pursuit.....
my $300 orthodics make my feet infinitely worse,
and i'm currently healing my feet from trying a pair of crocs for like 30 minutes.

so far, all i can do are really flat shoes that don't pronate me one way or the other. i have a flat pair of keds and a flat pair of sandals that i can wear all over a city of 10 miles of walking with only a slight flare up of PF and fatigue but no tendon or ligament pulls like in the other two cases mentioned above.

still in search myself.....2 down, others to go....

Sasha,
I am so sorry that you have sore feet! My feet started hurting over 3 years ago....First one and then the other and then both. I used $500 orthotics and than $800 orthotics and fancy healthy shoes and meds! Nothing really helped for 3 years they got worse and worse until I got diagnosed with AS. I started Remicade last month and my feet feel much better. I have way less pain and a better range of motion.
If your feet hurt go to a few good shoe stores and ask questios and try shoes on. Do not buy any if they are not comfortable in the store. Make sure you do not rush your purchase. If none feel comfortable ask your doctor for his opinion and or get a second opinion. Insoles and orthotics helped a bit but my feet just got worse and worse. I would fall asleep with ice tied to them. I could hardly walk down or upstairs and I had to go part timeat work they were so sre - I am 42 years old.

Please look after yourself and your feet! Good luck.
New Balance shoes and staff did help and I threw out alot of my shoes.

Beth

this is exactly why i have these old old beat up keds, sandals, shoe boots, and loafers.....

until i can find something that matches these, there is no point for me in getting anything new.

i did ask my podiatrist for shoe recommendations and she said for me where any kind of protonation seems to upset my feet, but where i need some more padding down there, to try a flat pair of asics sneakers or for shoes to try a flat pair of clark's ( think that was the brand). i will be going to a store to try the asics soon.

i do agree that the best way to treat the feet is to get to the root of the problem but there are some of us for whom the doctors aren't convinced that we have arthritis, so no wonder drugs. so in the meantime, the best shoes we can find, ice and heat, things like that. but i'm hoping for the day that we can treat the root of the problem instead of just the symptoms. in the meantime, treating the symptoms can go a long way.

if i'm standing (like in the kitchen to cook or in the lab to do dishes, etc) i take off my shoes and stand on a kneeling pad. that seems better for my feet than anything.

wonder if i can walk with them strapped to my feet????? 1/2 kidding.

Sue, my bf suggested just that to me last week! About a year ago, I covered my entire kitchen floor with foam floor tiles from home depot (they fit together like a jigsaw puzzle). Now thinking of covering my bathroom too. lol Would be nice if I could just attach foam to my feet!

Crocs also makes shoes for people with joint issues-

These are the ones I have and they have made a world of difference:

I can even use my orthotics in them. I literally cannot walk if I am not wearing these.
