We have this disease for a reason. I have it to learn to look beyond my selfish self and look at myself and the world more holistically. It has been in more ways a blessing in my life.

Ari,

Gee, here was me thinking that I had this disease because of the random chaos in the universe... (aka: [**BLEEP**] happens...)

I tried to be the Queen of Denial for 25 years and where did it get me ??? Here...

I think I shall take myself off to Hogwart's to see if one of those kind Dementors can't suck it from me, so that I can send it to you express post - then you can be twice blessed!

As a follower of a Buddhist philosophy, I bear my burden silently, but when it becomes too much, and I want to have just a wee moan, I have found a safe haven here @ KA!

I wonder what sort of a nurse you are? Empathetic? Or do you just tell the patients to stop being pathetic and wallowing in their misery? Hmmm.................

I am a physio, and if you asked all of my patients, they would say "My physio is a very positive person - always cheerful and teaches me how to take charge of my condition and not let it be the main focus of my life. She is sympathetic when I am distressed, and shares my joy when I do things that are hard for me..."

If you asked my work colleagues, associates and all but a couple of very close friends, they would say similar things, and would have no clue that I struggle to keep going many days. They would describe me as a 'giver', not a 'taker'.

I can see that some folks may find it easier to develop coping strategies than others - we are all hard-wired slightly differently, after all. But to tell us that we are all here for a mass Pity Party - well, Sista - you couldn't be more wrong! If and when members do get together somewhere, I'll bet that less than 5% of the conversation is about 'I've got more pain then you..." Those folks in Toronto asked Alan to "show us your scar" because it is easier than saying "we think you're kinda cute for a distinguished old dude - let us see your hunk of a body!" to a relative stranger, I'll bet!

Speaking of which, if you care to single out some of those afore-mentioned folks, I can see from their avatars that the likes of Mig, Alan, Kat and Moosekick are indeed a miserable looking lot!

Bah, phooey!

but what really caught my attention was Angelmom's:

I could go on and on about how many members here are a blessing, hope, my heros but they know who they are. And as miserable as I feel alot of days I do feel like I contribute here as much as I feel like I learn here. That is what makes this site so wonderful..before here I had never even heard of Mumbai (ankush) Kat, I never enjoyed broadway as I do now..lol, Alan..oh dear what can I say (hours of laughing) Possi, Gerri, Megan,Sue, Karen, Mig, Russell, Megan, Bridge, Brad, Sherri, Holly..and I don't want to leave anyone out because I may not be total friends with someone but that doesn't mean they haven't made a HUGE impact on my life. SteveC and Bruno, Lon, Loz & Jeanna, John, Dean, Dow, Moose, Farinelli, I know I have forgotten many so I am sorry but ALL of you are my second family.

which I of course, read as:

Quote:

I could go on and on about how many members here are a blessing, blah blah blah blah, blah, (Mumbai) blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah (something about broadway and some chap who apparently is quite amusing) blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah, blah, Dow, blah, blah blah, blah blah blahblah blah blah blah, blahblah blah blah blah, blah......ALL of you are my second family.

that's really funny, when i read it, it reads something like this:

Quote:

I could go on and on about how many members here are a blessing, blah blah blah blah, blah, (Mumbai) blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah (something about broadway and some chap who apparently is quite amusing) blah blah blah, Sue, blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah, blah, blah, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, blahblah blah blah blah, blah......ALL of you are my second family.

2U 2 lisa.

and dow for making me as usual.

PS i was wondering why all that music on the music forum was slowly turning into yodeling acordian music.... mystery solved.

....Sue, Lisa and Kevin are spitting mad, so is Mig but she's far too diplomatic to show it, which makes Steve laugh and Alan has light brown hair?? ....

So, basically, it's all "normal" here at KA. ;)

now i'm the one . i thought i had tempered my post so well, was so proud of my self control, but have apparently fooled no one, well at least not you kat!

sorry, this post landed in the wrong spot.

Hi Will,

It's not the method that most of the people who responded against... It is the way you presented it, with stereotyping us as a group, in an insulting way no less. Again, I think you had the wrong idea of what this support forum is about. This is like going to a microsoft forum and telling everybody they are fools (or worse) and don't need to rely on windows to accomplish things in life, only because you found something else that works for you. It simply shouldn't be done. They are typically there to offer support or receive support for their OS, or maybe learn something about their OS in the process. They are there because they want to be, not subconsciously drowning their sorrows away, or seeking attention or whatever. They certainly aren't there to make their OS worse for themselves either.

I don't know if this has ever crossed your mind, but many of us don't have brothers or sisters, or even parents for that matter, that had AS. You had your sister, someone in your life you could relate to, if you wanted to. Do you refuse to discuss AS with your own sister if she brings it up? I hope not.

Well, I have to go. I hope your sister is doing ok after reading through all this.
James

Cripes distinguished I like, Old I like but am not sure whether dude is a good or a bad thing.....lol

I owe you a response to a your lovely pm......am formulating it

To everyone else here. The evidence against the accusation of
wallowing,
AS as a hobby,
lack of strength of mind and the rest,

is manifest in the spirit of these responses. Politeness has prevailed, consideration, trying to see others viewpoints has prevailed, there has been the odd skirmish but all have retaine a pleasant demeanour, all have laughed a lot through this thread, friendships have prevailed and I am sure new ones developed. The whole thing rather than erode, has reinforced the spirit of KA and its members and the truth of their presence here, which is not grovelling attention seeking (other than that chap who interferes with all posts with attempts at silly humour, desperately hoping to be noticed) but friendship, support, understanding,a chat and a smile. I must say that KA's onward march seems tto me to be assured, simply because it is none of that of which it has been accused. it is throughout, reminiscent of the class of one of its admins, ( I suppose you will guess ) I love to be here. Thanks all for a fabulous debate.

Now after my sermon which sounds as if I am important how about me being head admin, votes to Mig on a postcard please

right I did actually manage to do some more sandwiches.....
